VP, Marketing

I am looking for a rock-star VP, Marketing for a leader in the smart-grid and energy management space to come in and hit the ground running. The right candidate will be an experienced consumer marketing professional that will focus our brand messaging and product line positioning, define our marketing and sales channel strategies, and plan our long-term product roadmap. Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the executive leadership team, you will direct the global brand management, product marketing, customer research, and channel support programs, with the end goal of improving the growth and profitability of the products for both consumers and utilities. The right candidate will provide strategic marketing leadership to the company, influencing the development of the global brand architecture. In addition, you will drive the business development opportunities with third parties who have the potential to further develop the brand, increase growth and profitability, and lead to long-term strategic alliances. Duties
· Responsible for demand creation, including advertising, web marketing, trade events, PR programs, non-traditional marketing & channel promotions
· Provide input into the global product and accessory roadmap and work with the product development team to define and launch new products and accessories
· Set pricing and promotion strategies and work with the sales team to create demand forecasts
· Develop channel support programs and manage our participation in trade shows and events
· Develop overall product positioning, pricing and messaging
· Build and manage a team of product management and marketing professionals
· Lead cross-functional teams that include representation from marketing, product management, sales, business development and engineering to refine the product roadmap for consumer products
· Work closely with designers and engineers to realize products that meet identified market needs
· Manage hardware and software features industrial design, packaging and out-of-box experiences
· Direct our consumer research and business modeling efforts
· Position the company to act as a “trusted marketing advisor” that assists utility customers, channel partners and retailers in educating consumers about the company’s products and the smart-grid in general
· Develop a consumer launch strategy for consumer-facing smart-grid products that furthers the company’s goal of building complementary consumer-oriented and utility-oriented sales channels
· Develop a strategy for creating a retail sales channel, knowledge of consumer industry required
· Create a user community to build early brand loyalty and encourage consumer participation in product development

Requirements
· An experienced marketing leader who will manage all aspects of our consumer marketing efforts, including online/offline advertising, promotions, trade shows, events, marketing communications, email and mobile marketing, both internally and through vendor and outside contractor relationships
· Track record of success with marketing emerging consumer technologies in new markets
· Self-starter who sets aggressive plans and gets results
· Ability to solve problems independently, establish trust, relate to others and build supportive relationships
· 10-15 yrs. experience marketing consumer technology products
· MBA preferred
· Experience marketing consumer electronics at retail or through direct-to-consumer channels
· Experience at fast-paced start-up
· Demonstrated track record of executing consumer marketing programs that delivered measurable business results
· Direct consumer marketing experience (history of translating user needs into marketing strategies)
· Experience managing external agency partners
· Exceptional teamwork, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
· Project management skills and strong attention to detail
· Excellent communications skills (written/verbal)
· Experience building integrated marketing & merchandising programs with retailer distribution a big plus
· Utility/energy/power industry, smart-grid and/or environmental marketing experience preferred
· Telecom/wireless or cable/satellite television industry experience is a plus
