In this position you would plan and implement affordability programs in the local health plan market. Key responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the deployment of national programs to the regional market
  • Participating in the development and implementation of local initiatives involving disease management programs, facility contracting initiatives, payment policies, vendor changes and product design changes
  • Coordinating all activities to ensure successful project completion
  • Building a consensus and acting as a change agent for each initiative
  • Working with the other members of the Affordability team to analyze medical expenses and coordinate the results

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop relationships with client counterparts through consulting engagement.
  • Communicate effectively, collaborate to execute on affordability assessment, creation of meaningful conclusions and development of recommendations that can be delivered to achieve financial results.
  • Obtain and demonstrate an understanding of the client, the industry, and critical needs to support effective current state analysis and recommend effective solutions.
  • Take a broad approach to problem solving.
  • Perform thorough current state analysis and effectively summarize critical findings/drivers.
  • Develop pertinent and insightful recommendations and build feasible, value-added solutions.
  • Collect historical population, benefit, claims, financial, clinical and performance related data from UHG data owners and customer.
  • Perform retrospective and prospective assessment of cost drivers including unit cost, utilization, specialty, provider type, diagnosis/episode, high cost claimant and other analyses.
  • Define historic drivers of medical expense trend and project expected levels of cost/trend as baseline for outlining potential solutions.
  • Assess components of benefits and plan design for impact on medical cost management, define areas of opportunity to improve results.
  • Analyze other key data that influence affordability, including employee engagement in financial decisions and health planning.
  • Assess value of UHG programs on financial results and areas for improvement related to program components/design and coordination across segments/programs.
  • Integrate results of analysis into comprehensive report of historical results.
  • Concisely defines key drivers of medical expense spend and/or missed opportunities, including: unit cost, utilization, program/management gaps, employee engagement/education and benefit/plan design.
  • Defines in an integrated fashion the value provided across UHG, along with opportunities for improvement.
  • Translates data into potential future strategic actions that will positively influence expected medical costs.
  • Consult with appropriate USS/UHG resources/enablers, identify potential solutions that will positively influence customer's affordability results.
  • Prioritize based on expected financial impact, implementation risk and consistency with customer's benefits strategy/philosophy.
  • Quantify value, risks and expected timing of implementation, along with dependencies.
  • Incorporate solutions in multi-year affordability plan with intent of expanding value and presence of capabilities over time.
  • Design the deliverable to precisely reflect client needs, and prioritize them to account for expected value, program complexity/risk, expected timing of return and investment required.
  • Respond to the customer with a sense of urgency, practicality, accountability, integrity and respect.
  • Consistently represent all segments of UHG in a positive light, while continually communicating customer issues to the Sr Affordability Consultant and SAE.
  • Proactively identify and assist, as appropriate, in the timely resolution of any strategic, technical or service issues.
  • Coordinate and communicate activities with engagement and management teams.
  • Pursue activities to continually familiarize one with UHG programs and seek out participation opportunities in ongoing training

Qualifications

The ability to manage projects in a cross-functional setting is essential, as is experience analyzing data and communicating the results. The ability to train others is required. A healthcare or managed care background is strongly preferred. Clinical experience or prior work in a hospital or on the network side of the business would be an asset. Strong Excel and Access skills will be needed; Project proficiency is desired. Bachelor's or nursing degree preferred.
