SYMMETRICOM, Inc. is the worldwide leader in Carrier/ISP markets for innovative network test and measurement solutions for Voice, Data and Video. We are expanding our market leadership into the emerging QoE market for IPTV and other triple play services and seek a Senior Software Linux Engineer to take us to the next level.

We are seeking a Lead Linux Applications Engineer with strong C/C++ development skills and 12+ years of experience developing commercial Linux/Unix based products or appliances. You will join a team developing the leading edge distributed Linux based platform for 24/7 network QoE measurements for VOIP, IPTV and Data. Symmetricom's QoE Assurance Division provides perceptual video quality monitoring and diagnostic solutions for cable operators, telcos and other CSPs to deliver mission critical QoE solutions for IP-based switched digital video services. Applicant will have a strong Linux application design and development background and will have the ability to provide technical leadership in solving engineering problems. Just as important are non-technical life skills such as the ability to lead a project, meet deadlines, work with a team, and communicate clearly both verbally and on paper.

This is a great opportunity to work with many exciting technologies such as MPEG-2 & MPEG-4 IP digital video, streaming media protocols, distributed systems, high performance computing, high-availability and management of distributed real-time probes.

Responsibilities:
  • Development, debugging and unit testing of Linux applications
  • Specify and implement communications protocols
  • Write and publish technical documentation, including specifications, theory of operation, test methodology and coverage, and time-critical factors on all implemented code modules.
  • Interact with product verification to aid in testing and achieve high product quality
  • Interact with product line managers to help clarify product feature definition, demonstrate features, and help in marketing oriented documentation.
Required Experience and Skills:
  • 10+ years of software development experience with a minimum of 5+ years of Linux/Unix application and system level software development.
  • Demonstrated excellence in C and C++ design, patterns, coding, debugging and unit testing. Specifically we are looking for skills with UDP/TCP sockets, multithreading, process control, IPC, signals, system calls and multiprocessing in Linux environment using C/C++.
  • Experience with large scale systems, scalability, availability and performance issues with Linux
  • Ability to complete software projects on time in a fast paced environment
  • A BS degree in EE/CS/Computer Engineering is required; MS degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of relational database, data modeling and SQL
  • Skills with scripting language such as Perl or Python
Desired :
  • Embedded Linux experience, familiarity with real-time concepts and understanding of VOIP and IPTV protocols (particularly MPEG2/4, H.264, RTSP, RTP/RTCP, and SIP) is a plus. .
  • Experience with MySQL, SNMP, IP Multicast, Telecom and Shell scripting
