Veterinary Technical Consultant - Companion Animal - Mid Atlantic US

Within the Global Marketing and Planning Group for Companion Animals for Elanco Animal Health, the purpose of the position is to serve as a field based technical anchor for the Technical, Academic, and Consumer Services (TACS) group and support all pre-launch and launch activities deemed appropriate for the department. Travel will be required on a regular basis for one on one customer interactions to support the sales force, for technical presentations to the customer base and/or for technical support at national, state or local veterinary meetings. Travel commitment will average 75%, but may be higher at times due to new product introductions, etc. Phone technical support will entail a minor component of the position and case work relative to the customer support aspects of adverse events will be limited. Field veterinary staff will be integral in the technical support rollout of new products and their ongoing support. Field staff will also assist with product technical training, as deemed appropriate by the Companion Animal Training Manager. Each Veterinary Technical Consultant will have responsibilities associated with execution of the Academic Liaison Program with responsibilities at one or more School or College of Veterinary Medicine. Field veterinary staff will work closely with field sales organization to provide training and development of technical competence.

KEY OBJECTIVES/DELIVERABLES:

  • Support the efforts of Sales and Marketing, as required, through travel with representatives and participation in launch teams, customer meetings and veterinary meetings, as assigned.
  • Good presentation skills are mandatory.
  • Project an attitude of exceptional customer service in all aspects of job execution.
  • Provide technical support for all products via telephone, direct customer interaction and through presentations to professional and pet owner audiences.
  • Assist with and support all pertinent training programs for new technical consultant veterinarians, veterinary technicians and customer support personnel within the company, as well as for the sales force and the contract call center.
  • Assist, as assigned, with the coordination and execution of the Post Approval Studies to address critical data needs.
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of the Academic Liaison Program at assigned veterinary colleges or schools.
  • Assist in identification of key specialty veterinarians and develop technical working relationships with them.
  • Participate in pre-launch and launch team activities as deemed appropriate, to insure timely execution of all activities assigned to TACS.
  • Serve as technical co-spokesperson for media events associated with new product launches, as deemed appropriate by the Manager of Technical, Academic and Consumer Services.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Veterinary degree (D.V.M. or V.M.D.) and a minimum combination of 5years experience in companion animal or mixed animal (companion animal focus) private practice and/or academic practice environment.
  • Basic knowledge of the companion animal market and products available.
  • Travel required for this position is extensive, estimated at 75%, including occasional international travel.
  • A focus on providing exceptional support and customer service to veterinarians, staff, and their clients, as well as to internal customers.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/PREFERENCES:

  • Additional industry experience is highly desirable, as are advanced degrees in areas relevant to Elanco Companion Animal products.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements associated with the reporting and follow-up on adverse event reports.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to convey messages and motivate various audiences.
  • Ability to make decisions within the context of uncertainty and ambiguity.

  • Strong planning skills and the ability to execute.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
