Software Engineer (HLA, OpenGL, Visual C++)



Job Description:



Raytheon's Research Computing and Advanced Engineering department located in Hampton, VA, provides research support and engineering services for various NASA Aeronautics and Space programs. The department is responsible for the development and maintenance of the NASA Langley Airspace and Traffic Operations Simulation (ATOS) research system, one of the largest distributed simulation systems in the world. The ATOS system consists of multiple workstation-based aircraft simulators networked together. Under the auspices of the Joint Planning Development Office (JPDO) Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) initiative, NASA uses ATOS to conduct research into the feasibility of advanced Air Traffic Management (ATM) concepts.



The Research Computing and Advanced Engineering department seeks a motivated R&D Software Engineer to join the ATOS development team. B e responsible for the design, development, unit test, and integration of software packages into the ATOS system. Software packages are typically developed on Windows, using one or more of the following technologies: Visual C++, OpenGL, HLA and can range from modeling an avionic component to a complete subsystem. J oin a lean process, fast-paced research environment and work with subject matter experts in modeling & simulation, aircraft aerodynamics modeling, and air traffic management.





Required Skills:
-
Must have a BS degree or possess equivalent experience in lieu of a degree

-
Must have a minimum of 4 years related software engineering experience and a strong understanding and background in system architecture and object-oriented design technologies.

Must have experience with Visual C++, OpenGL and/or HLA.

Must have additional experience in one or more of the following domains:

-
Distributed modeling & simulation

-
Air traffic management

-
Aviation weather products

-
Aircraft aerodynamics, 6 degrees-Of-freedom modeling

-
JPDO NextGen

-
Trajectory prediction, flight management systems

Desired Skills:
-
Aerospace engineering background.

-
Understanding of the NASA environment, experience working with NASA.

-
Experience with JPDO NextGen ConOps and architecture.

-
Pilot and/or controller experience.

-
Knowledge of air traffic management technologies and systems.

-
Distributed modeling and simulation systems and technologies experience.
