Linux System Administrator: Thomas Weisel Partners

The candidate will work with a team of engineers that support the troubleshooting, maintenance and monitoring of corporate IT systems. The position requires minimum four (4) years as a Senior Systems Engineer managing Unix/Linux based systems. Experience with RedHat Linux, Sun Solaris, and VMware, are strongly desired. Candidate should have some experience with MS SQL and Oracle Database administration.

Essential Functions

¨ Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve hardware, backup, storage, and RedHat/Solaris related issues.

¨ Ability to anticipate potential problems, make recommendations and implement solutions with regards to high-availability and change management.

¨ Perform daily operational activities around monitoring and maintenance of production systems as well as provide visibility of these activities through administrative tools such as change management, incident management, ticketing systems, etc.

¨ Provide 24x7/365 rotational support of production systems & services.

¨ Identify areas of growth and scalability concerns and recommend courses of action.

¨ Work with information systems and customer service organizations when addressing reliability and availability related issues in our production infrastructure.

¨ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

¨ Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects and assignments.

¨ Detail oriented individual capable of working both independently and within a team.

¨ Work with database administrator to provide backup and support of our Microsoft SQL and Oracle database environment.

¨ Familiar with SAN and fabric concepts and understanding of zoning configuration.

¨ Competent in SAN administration such as creating volumes, LUN's and multipathing configuration.

Required Skills

¨ Four (4) years recent experience in an operational role with a 24x7/365 business.

¨ Four (4) years as System Administrator supporting 50+ servers.

¨ HP and Sun hardware build experience.

¨ Scripting abilities in Shell/Perl.

¨ Solid understanding of backup technologies and methodologies.

¨ Experience with industry standard network monitoring solutions is desirable.

¨ Possess exceptional ability to learn and retain knowledge in new environments.

¨ Motivated, accountable, and self-starting member of the team.

¨ Has a personable attitude and can communicate comfortably with fellow employees.

¨ RedHat Linux and Sun Solaris operating systems

¨ Enterprise monitoring

¨ Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases including RAC

¨ Brocade SAN experience

¨ EMC, 3Par, or Hitachi enterprise level data storage experience.
