Need for an experienced Quality Management professional - Food



The Company

The Opportunity

My client is seeking an energetic, leadership oriented, food quality professional to lead improvements in their quality function. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating and achieving improvements in the quality of processed cheese and/or other food products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate for this key position will provide leadership and direction to the food quality and safety program at an established food manufacturer in southern Wisconsin . In addition to managing quality processes and systems, this role is also responsible for insuring regulatory compliance, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and an effective food safety program.

This key position reporting to the VP Operations will:

· Plan and direct activities to develop apply and maintain quality standards for food production processes, and the ingredients and materials used in these.

· Is closely involved with the development of new or modified food products.

· Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, sampling, testing, and evaluation, utilizing knowledge in related fields such as chemistry or food science.

· Devises or revises existing procedures for sampling, recording and evaluating quality data for items produced, including design of forms and instructions for these procedures.

· Establishes programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement and analytical equipment and facilities.

· Collaborates with others in the company and/or supply chain:

o To develop and implement methods and systems for control and disposal of discrepant material.

o To identify the root cause of quality problems in production or supply chain and reduce or eliminate them.

o To develop and implement methods to reduce cost of products sold while improving quality levels.

o To increase the effectiveness of quality programs at the company while reducing the overall cost of maintaining quality standards.

Requirements

  • BS degree in a food science, quality, production and/or quality related field
  • 5+ years experience in the food Quality Assurance field, as a Quality Manager or similar job title.
  • At least 3 years experience with food manufacturing processes where ingredients are blended and processed using machines and the process controls that accompany these kinds of products.
  • Direct experience with AIB, SQF or similar food industry production audits, GMP and other food safety standards, including HACCP.
  • Desired ASQ certification as a Certified Quality Engineer, or closely related discipline.
  • Desired exposure to and ideally, training and/or certification in the Lean 6 Sigma methodology.
  • Experience and professional knowledge in the development and operation of quality control information systems, application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures.
