Unrivaled training. Meaningful responsibilities. Global travel. Fluency in key foreign languages can translate to amazing opportunities in today's Navy or Navy Reserve.

GAIN EXPERIENCE THAT GOES BEYOND WORDS

Identifying threats to national security. Helping locals understand the Navy's efforts to offer humanitarian relief. Assisting in negotiations between U.S. and foreign officials. In the Navy, you can use your knowledge of another language and culture to launch the career of a lifetime. And substantially impact the world around you in the process.

The ability to apply linguistic skills and critical thinking is highly valued in the intelligence community of the Navy. And in this role, you could find yourself:

  • Working with classified material
  • Translating, transcribing and interpreting foreign-language communications data
  • Analyzing and reporting highly technical information of strategic and tactical importance to fleet commanders and national intelligence agencies
  • Operating state-of-the-art electronic radio receivers, magnetic recording devices, computers and communications signals equipment
  • Performing temporary duty aboard a variety of Naval surface and subsurface vessels, aircraft and at shore stations

There are opportunities to utilize and expand your expertise in dozens of foreign language areas. You could learn Arabic, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, French, Korean, Vietnamese, Hebrew, Persian, Tagalog or another language in high demand. Potentially earning a valuable Department of Labor certification as an interpreter or translator along the way.

Be sure to add "world traveler" to your impressive resume. You'll not only evaluate and decipher information from afar, but you'll also reach out to communicate the Navy's intentions to the rest of the world. Going places most can't even imagine. With opportunity to explore on your own time. For anyone with experience in a second language, few lifestyles can compare to what you'll find in the Navy.

TAKE YOUR SKILLS TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Navy world-language training is intensive and could last more than a year. Lessons consist of comprehensive foreign-language instruction and technical-skills training in individualized and group instruction. But for those who qualify in this highly demanding field, placement is excellent. And the experience is extremely marketable.

Know that most of the training in this field will translate toward credit hours for a bachelor's or associate degree in the area of foreign languages and written and oral communications skills. And you may have the opportunity to take advantage of advanced language training funded by the Navy - as well as potentially receive up to $70,000 for college.
