Research Assistant, Biomechanics (2631)

Exponent’s Biomechanics Practice analyzes injuries and reconstructs accidents involving vehicles, consumer products and the environment. We are equipped with state-of-the art laboratories and test facilities to perform these evaluations as well as a Biomechanics research library containing thousands of research articles. Exponent’s unique combination of expertise enables the Biomechanics Practice to research and analyze the complex mechanical interactions between humans and medical devices. We also consult in intellectual property and product liability matters related to medical devices.

The Biomechanics Practice is currently hiring for a Research Assistant in our Wood Dale, IL office.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Organizing, reviewing, analyzing, and coordinating document production
  • Creating and maintaining discovery indexes
  • Organizing case files
  • Calendaring discovery deadlines
  • Preparing deposition and case summaries
  • Organizing, summarizing and analyzing medical records as well as assisting with e-discovery
  • Collaborating with scientists/engineers to prepare a factual summary of relevant case materials and a chronology of events
  • Conducting various document searches and factual research
  • Creating and maintaining internal case databases, running searches on internal and external document databases and systems, and culling relevant information from a variety of resources such as scientific and technical literature
  • Organizing and indexing exhibits, preparing deposition and trial binders, and managing document-intensive files
  • Cite checking, budget tracking, document review, tracking and managing court dates, and managing exhibits
Qualifications for this position include:
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a litigation paralegal
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to review and summarize medical records is desirable
  • Ability to sort, index, categorize, order, manipulate and organize voluminous case information such as physical documents, exhibits and evidence is essential
  • Ability to use technology applications such as databases to assist in managing case-related data
  • Proficiency with Internet research and research databases such as Medline is also desirable
  • Ability to multi-task, think flexibly, prioritize assignments, and balance the demands of multiple clients
  • Attention to detail is essential
