Minimum Experience/Education: One of the following educational requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in child or youth development or related field,
- A Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average less than 2.5 overall and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master's degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in child or youth development or related field, or
- Completion of a Master's degree with at least one of the degrees in child or youth development or related field.

Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities.

Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the County Extension Agent's job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication.

Departmental Required Skills: Sampson County is the largest county in North Carolina located in the southern coastal plains between Raleigh and Wilmington. The county seat and largest town is Clinton with 8,800 citizens, and there are seven additional municipalities within the county.

The 4-H and Youth program in the county is a balance between traditional community and special interest clubs, a youth livestock program, and several youth-at-risk programs. Community support for the 4-H program is strong with several local organizations and businesses providing funding. The United Way is the major supporter of the program. Grant funding has provided support for successful programs including Teen Court and Restitution as well as in-school prevention programs dealing with drug and alcohol prevention. Funding for a Gang Assessment has recently been acquired. Sampson County has a 4-H program that is addressing the many needs of our youth.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: A Bachelor's degree in Child or Youth Development or related discipline is required. A Masters Degree and previous experience is preferred.

The successful candidate should have experience or demonstrated interest in working with youth from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds. The agent should also have the ability to interact with a wide range of community stakeholders as well as potential partners in the school system and elsewhere. Enthusiasm for marketing the 4-H program and for seeking out new opportunities will be critical.

Essential Job Duties: This position will be responsible for planning, implementation and supervision and evaluation of an exciting, high quality 4-H educational resource for youth ages 5-19. The overall 4-H program should support community clubs, school enrichment, special interest opportunities, youth livestock, and youth-at-risk programs. The position will develop and manage the 4-H budget in support of traditional 4-H programs and grant funded programs. The agent will be expected to take full advantage of technical support and opportunities offered on campus at NC State and elsewhere, such as Electric Congress and District Activity Day. Sampson County's 4-H program should be widely known and available to youth throughout the county, with a special emphasis in building strong community clubs.

Other Work/Responsibilities: The County Extension Agent is a member of the faculty of North Carolina State University. The County Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of county Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The County Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and county leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications: Valid Driver's License and reliable, personal transportation required.
Valid NCDL required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
