The Challenge: The Solutions Architect role requires a strong technical program management background and several years of development experience. Comcast's custom solutions are extensive and require in-depth technical understanding to apply them effectively. Solutions Architects do not contribute code to the project codebase, but being able to prototype new functionality is important. The Task: * Provide robust solutions for interconnected components of a complex system involving many other groups and organizations within Comcast. * Work directly with the product management organization to provide critical leadership and guidance in the requirements definition process. * Evaluate, and when necessary prototype, alternatives to determine the most appropriate approach for each solution. * Prepare design and specification documentation that can be understood by technical, functional and business driven teams throughout the organization. * Provide support to the engineering team members to estimate the level of effort required for a given project or component. * Act as the champion for the components of the overall solution that you are responsible for while working with other principal team members to ensure a collaborative approach is undertaken prior to implementation. * Be an active member of the larger solutions architects team, acting as a whole to define the best possible global solution. * Provide appropriate support to the documentation, support and training organizations related to your solutions. * Represent the project and Comcast in discussions with internal and external groups and organizations, including Comcast executive staff, vendors, other MSOs, industry organizations, etc. Required Skills: Required Qualifications: * 5+ years software experience at an architect/technical program management level * Demonstrated ability to lead the design and development of complex applications. * Proven experience as a technical leader. * Familiarity with Lean and Agile software development processes. * Strong sense of responsibility and ownership for the success of projects. * Strong technical program management experience and experience defining and developing against SDKs. * Understanding of and experience with the full software development lifecycle, including functional and technical specification, implementation, QA processes, deployment, and maintenance. * Demonstrated leadership ability and confidence to work closely with members of different teams or organizations in collaborative scenarios. * In-depth understanding of services-based software design as it applies to scaling, security, etc. * Strong Video experience in ONE OR MORE of the following areas: IP video streaming, MPEG-2/MPEG-4 compression and transport, Content Delivery Network (CDN), session and resource management, Digital Rights Management (DRM), switched digital video, Video on Demand system. Desired Qualifications: * Familiarity with MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/H.264 standards. * Experience in the cable or telco industries a plus. * Proficiency in HTTP, IP Multicast/Unicast, XML, a plus. * Excellent verbal and written communication skills. * Excellent organizational and time management skills. * Keen attention to detail and a high level of commitment. * Relocation assistance available for qualified applicants.
