Manager I EH&S
Job Description:
The focus of this position is managing the Forest CMC (Consolidated Manufacturing Center) EHS Department and includes, but is not limited to: managing the development, implementation, and continued improvement of EHS management systems, improvement of data integrity and utilization, and continuous development of EHS staff.
Responsibilities: -Responsible for achieving SAS Forest environmental, health, and safety goals and objectives for department and staff -Responsible for the planning, administration and management of all environmental, health, and safety compliance programs for SAS Forest site operations. -Serve as the technical expert on EHS compliance matters and will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance in all areas relating to environmental and worker protection -Coordinate SAS Forest site responses and solutions with business plans; federal, state, and local environmental regulations; and real estate matters. -Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures to ensure that Forest site practices are in compliance with the appropriate statutes and regulations, and that regulatory reporting requirements are met. -Interpret federal and state laws, regulations, and orders as they apply to environmental, health, and safety practices. -Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental, health, and safety requirements. -Prepare environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals. -Investigate and resolves environmental, health, or safety compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from within the company, customers, government regulatory agencies, etc. -Develop and implement programs designed to increase employee awareness and knowledge of EHS compliance policies. -Audit and evaluate current EHS policies, procedures, and documentation for compliance with government laws and regulations. -Track EHS compliance activities, generate and maintain tracking metrics -Prepare and maintain site specific hazardous waste management program and associated documentation and manuals -Develop and present environmental, health, and safety training courses to SAS Forest employees -Prepare weekly and monthly summary of SAS Forest environmental, health, and safety compliance programs and issues for weekly Operations staff meetings and monthly Operations reviews
-Plan, develop, and implement long-range remedial environmental solutions in response to environmental investigations and property assessments to reduce environmental risk and protect company assets. -Establish and maintain proactive and positive working relationship with appropriate regulatory agencies -Assure necessary environmental and industrial hygiene monitoring is performed as needed and that results are analyzed for proper risk mitigation -Interface with EHS Managers across other SAS sites to ensure implementation of best practices and common initiatives
Required Skills:
-Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in comprehensive environmental health and safety practice in industrial environment and three (3) years of supervisory leadership experience in an EHS role - Experience managing EHS program in a manufacturing environment
- Experience interfacing with governmental safety and environmental regulators
- Comprehensive knowledge of US regulatory requirements for environmental and occupational safety compliance
- Solid understanding and experience in Mississippi EPA and OSHA regulations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Must have the ability to work under minimal supervision and direction and to exercise sound judgment.
- Must possess excellent group dynamic, interpersonal and negotiating skills and have the ability to manage large networks of people.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and succeed in a functional position, lead or participate on team activities
- Ability to understand and apply solutions involving engineering controls, personal protective equipment and appropriate control technologies required.
- Ability to be recognized as a change agent in developing and sustaining a safety culture
- Ability to develop and direct staff and consultants.
- Budget management capability is required
- Extensive knowledge and application of the principals of environmental and/or air quality engineering.
- Ability to diagnose problems, accurately develop appropriate alternatives, and implement practical and effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Ability to provide clear, concise, and effective verbal communications.
- Well-developed written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, delegate, and follow-up on work flow to meet departmental goals and objectives.

Proven ability to use Lotus Notes, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Project. - Implementation and administration of OSHA VPP - Clear understanding of Mississippi Workers' Compensation Law and administration of return to work programs
Desired Skills:
* Experienced in developing and conducting creative and engaging environmental, health, and safety training. * Able to comprehend and calculate complex air quality formulas and compliance measurements. * Ability to read and understand architectural, electrical, mechanical, structural, and civil engineering drawings. * Ability to obtain a secret clearance
Required Education (including Major):
Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, environmental engineering, occupational safety & health or a related field. Master's degree in environmental engineering or safety engineering preferred.
