Job Description

Drives up to a 20-ton truck loaded with compressed gas cylinders, liquid cylinders and hardgoods to deliver to customers on scheduled or unscheduled route. Picks up empty cylinders from customer sites. Records deliveries and pick-ups on a load manifest and obtains signatures from customers for receipt purposes. Listens to and resolves service inquiries and complaints. Loads / unloads truck and sets up cylinders for customer use. Performs pre and post trip vehicle inspections, documenting deficiencies and ensures all safety items are in good working order. Maintains neat, clean and professional personal appearance, and maintains vehicle appearance in a professional manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Upload, deliver and download safely to customers hardgood orders as well as cylinders containing compressed gases; return empty cylinders to plant for refilling.
• Communicate in person with customers, providing information on cost, ordering and delivery times, etc.
• Maintain load manifests and all other vehicle documents, ensuring they are properly completed and balanced with truck counts and shipping documents before and after deliveries.
• Operate a forklift, pallet jack and other warehouse equipment.
• Ensure all safety rules are strictly observed.
• Maintain appropriate drivers' license.

MARGINAL DUTIES:

• Work with customers on maintaining proper cylinder levels.
• Establish and maintain good customer relations.
• Perform counter sales and assist customers, when necessary.
• Assist with inspection of cylinders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Class A Commercial Drivers License with HazMat, with good driving record.
• Minimum 2 year commercial driving experience or 1 year experience after successful completion from an accredited truck driving academy.
• Must be Accident Free
• Must have a current 10-year DMV printout (no more than 30 days old).
• The 10-year DMV printout must not include any of the following convictions: driving under the influence, hit-and-run, or reckless driving in a commercial vehicle.
• No more than two moving violations in the past three years or one moving violation in a commercial vehicle in the past three years.
• Must have never been disqualified to drive a commercial vehicle according to provisions of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• Must meet all physical qualification standards imposed by regulation for drivers.
• Ability to read and comprehend materiel safety data sheets.
• Ability to routinely lift 25 - 50 lbs, and occasionally lift 51 - 80 lbs.
• Must be able to drive hazardous cargo for up to 8 hours; frequent bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, feeling and repetitive motion also required.
• Ability to perform work during occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling and finger activities.
• Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines.
• Must be able to work overtime, when necessary.
• Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to work outdoors in temperatures ranging from -10 to over 110 degrees.
• Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE DESIRED:

• Some basic knowledge or experience in welding.
• Some experience in handling compressed gases.
• Customer service or sales experience
