Position Description:
We are currently seeking two Product Development Engineers (PDEs) for the DJO Surgical division, located in the Austin, Texas facility. The Product Development Engineer is responsible to execute all aspects of product development related to total joint implants and instrument, activities to include: design and design control, validation and verification, new product roll-out to manufacturing; and sustaining engineering for specific products, as assigned. This position may direct activities of Designer/Drafters and Prototype Machinists. Essential Job Functions include: 1. Communicate project priorities to teams (Product Development Engineers, Product Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance and Production Control) 2. Develop project plans 3. Develop final product designs 4. Participate in project status meetings. 5. Document design activities in accordance with Quality System requirements. 6. Schedule and conduct regular meetings with product team members. 7. Confer with Manufacturing to validate that production process results in parts consistent with design. 8. Receive or initiate ECO's 9. Design and create special instruments 10. Participate in activities designed to make surgeons and agents more competent in the use of the products 11. Present product information (for new and existing products) to agents and surgeons at meetings. 12. Write and/or edit technical monographs/articles pertaining to the technical aspects of products. 13. Uses computer functions such as graphics, complex word processing, spreadsheet functions, statistical analysis, data base searches, CAD drafting/design and 3D modeling. 14. Lead and or participate in cadaver validation labs with the goal of collecting Surgeon VOC and achieving design freeze. Qualifications: The best qualified candidates will have: **Education – Completion of Bachelors' Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering w/mechanical track, or equivalent. **Experience – 8 years combined experience (design, product development, project management, and medical device manufacturing). Applies scientific, technical, administrative or learned experience in widely varying situations requiring operational and/or conceptual leadership. **Requires experience in mechanical and biomedical engineering standards and concepts. Preferred candidates would have knowledge of FDA and ISO requirements for the design and manufacture of medical devices. DJO is a portfolio company of the Blackstone Group.
