Sr R&D Engineer

PURPOSE:
Develops new technology, products, materials, processes, or equipment with minimal supervision. Independently, or as a member of a team, develops, directs, and executes plans for a major segment of complex projects.
Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to establish technical specifications for designing or modifying products, processes, and materials.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
This individual will lead a design team to create and develop new products and innovations focused on addressing unmet business and market needs for treating urologic stone disease. They will define concepts, verify prototypes, create and execute clinically simulated bench tests, verify and validate designs and transfer new products into production. This position will be instrumental in embracing and implementing design control policies, and the BSC New Product Development processes. They will ensures the efficient transfer of products designed for manufacturing throughout the development cycle and into full production / commercialization status. Through interfacing with Marketing, Regulatory, Clinical, Quality Engineering / Assurance, Operations, sourcing vendors and physicians, they will need to manage multiple project timelines, resources and responsibilities to achieve team, departmental, and divisional goals.
Must comply with requirements of ISO 14001 and BSC Environmental, Health and Safety standards and follow procedures and instructions related to these standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
May supervise or coach technicians or other engineering support employees. Trains and/or provides work direction to technicians and engineers and may train manufacturing personnel when required as part of a validation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for this position you must have the following qualifications: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or SKILLS
The position requires a Bachelors Degree in Engineering (or equivalent) with comprehensive knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, mechanical properties testing, concepts, practices and theories. Five to ten (5-10) years of industrial experience in design and development of medical devices (or related field). The ability to successfully lead cross functional teams and collaborate problem solving. Ability to communicate (oral and written) clearly and effectively before groups and in project documentation. Self motivated, high energy, positive attitude individual with the initiative and drive for timely completion of goals with minimal supervision. Polymer or metal materials knowledge and experience working with various processes (ie. Extrusion, molding, bonding, forming, joining). Proficient in part design working with modeling software (Solid Works). Experience in supervising technical talent. This position may supervise other technical people depending on size and scope of projects. Basic knowledge of statistical practices as it relates to sample sizes, confidence intervals, capabilities, assessing risk, data analysis and general problem solving.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: The following are qualifications that we would prefer candidates to have.
MS in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or related discipline. Demonstrated Project Management experience (approx. 3 years).
