The build manager provides technical support and consultation to software architecture, application development, quality assurance, and platform operations personnel. The build manager coordinates software development and deployment activities as a build is installed and promoted through integration, testing and production application environments. The build manager is responsible for drafting and distributing build status information to all stakeholders as a build progresses through iterative deployment and testing processes.
The build manager oversees the end-to-end build process and the automated tools supporting the build process. This responsibility extends to maintaining and upgrading these tools and distributing training information to build stakeholders.
The build manager adapts the build process to changing stakeholder requirements. The build manager continuously improves the build process to improve efficiency and over all quality.
The build manager creates and maintains process documentation describing the build process and all activities required to ensure the build process is repeatable and operationally efficient.
Key Responsibilities:
· Manages and maintains the source control system implementing version control for all products, solutions, and third-party components
· Coordinates and controls the entry of all code and subsequent revisions to be included in a build release
· Initiates, monitors and completes the build process and stakeholder status communication
· Deploys build releases to an integration environment and troubleshoots all employment issues
· Designs, implements, and maintains build automation processes
· Tracks and coordinates build releases across integration, QA and Production environments
· Compiles build release metrics and reports and distributes them to appropriate stakeholders
· Monitors and updates the change management system to reflect the status of build release components
· Compiles and maintains a “lessons learned” log to be used for build process improvement
· Promotes a team-based approach to all build process control and coordination considering both on shore and off shore effectiveness and quality when designing or adapting the build process
· Verifies that all automated tools used in the build process are adequately backed up and recoverably in the event of minor or major infrastructure failures.
· Creates detailed instructions allowing a back-up build manager to effectively and efficiently assemble and deploy a software build release.
· Identifies and escalates issues that expose the build and deployment process to increased risk of failure
