To serve as the staff specialist in safety by developing and carrying out procedures with the line organization that effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize work related accidents.

1. Investigates serious injuries in conjunction with line and staff personnel. Notifies top management of pertinent details.
2. Guides and assists plant personnel at locations with critical safety and health problems.
3. Overviews company accident statistics and makes recommendations for correction of problem areas.
4. Plans and directs safety and industrial hygiene services of insurance carriers to obtain optimum service.
5. Oversees the internal forklift certification process
6. Oversees the sexual harassment training program for all company employees
7. Works with professional organizations to promote goals and objectives in the health and safety area that affect company’s business.
8. Receives, tracks and monitors claims received by employees.
9. Coordinates injuries with the workers compensation insurance company.
10. Coordinates safety training programs.
11. Corresponds with or telephones physicians, hospitals, and employees regarding claims.
12. Ensures timely processing of workers compensation claims
13. Evaluates accident reports to determine accuracy and completeness and to ensure adequate investigation
14. Ensures that the company is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
15. Assists with the development and execution of programs as listed above.



Qualifications:


1. Knowledgeable in the application of OSHA regulations.
2. Knowledgeable of the workers compensation process.
3. Experience in administering personnel policies and procedures.
4. Must project a positive and professional image.
5. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
6. be able to make decisions within scope of job.
7. Be readily receptive of additional training for the broadening of skills.
8. Must have working knowledge of the packinghouse and farming positions.
9. Acceptable DMV record.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field and minimum five (5) years of experience in occupational safety, Industrial hygiene, environmental health, or related fields. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) highly desired. Additional years of experience can be substituted in place of degree.
