Position Description : ACS’ Transportation Solutions Group has an opening for a Systems Development Manager in our Germantown, MD Transportation Technology Center. This position is part of a 100+ person software development team creating industry leading transportation related software applications. The team supports the development and 24x7 operations of high volume transaction processing and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems. It requires an individual who is capable of building and leading a strong technical team (10-20 software engineers) as well as being actively “hands on” in the technical details. The position demands excellent technical skills and knowledge coupled with strong leadership, planning, and management abilities. The environment is fast paced and dynamic, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing priorities across multiple projects and multi-task. The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills along with a demonstrated ability to meet schedules within allocated hours and with a high degree of quality. After hours and weekend work is sometimes required given the production system aspects of the job. Key responsibilities of the are: • Collaborate with business team, Product Managers, and Solution Architects to generate and fully define innovative new product features to better serve the targeted marketplace. • Provide accurate scoping and estimation of development efforts based on product requirements. • Stay informed of trend in the transportation domain and evolving technologies, ascertaining their impact on ACS software products. • Lead development efforts to build and improve ACS software products by translating business and functional requirements and problems into robust, scalable, and supportable solutions. • Motivate and mentor developers with effective performance management and career development, focusing on top talent development. Continually assess group needs and expectations, in light of being a best-in-class organization, against group resources and capabilities and proactively take appropriate corrective actions. • Ensure that all relevant processes and procedures are understood and followed by all team members in their daily work efforts. • Ensure that all administrative reporting requirements (timecards, expense reports, project reports) are met in a timely manner and that information is correct. • Build strong relationships with departmental leaders throughout the company, and contribute to leadership discussions. • Innovative continuously with the goal of reducing development costs / timelines and improve quality. Appropriate metrics are to be in place to demonstrate the innovation. • Lead and facilitate others in achieving high performance with quality results under challenging conditions in a environment that foster team work and cooperation. Position Requirements : • Demonstrated experience in successfully building and maintaining high volume transaction processing, financial, business intelligence, or large-scale CRM systems, in particular the support of production system operating in a 24x7 environment. • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, comprehension and presentation) and client interface skills. • Proven planning, organization coaching and conflict management skills. • A strong problem solving and technical, operational, and/or analysis skills. • Practical experience with software engineering best-practices including object oriented design and agile development methodologies. • Current “hand-on” experience with many of the following technologies – Siebel, Crystal Reports, Java, C, C++, Websphere, Oracle, VMware, and Rational tool set. • Highly desired experience includes PCI Compliance, hands-on experience with outsourcing, image visualization, document scanning and management, Service Oriented Architectures, knowledge management and RFID. • Ability to travel up to 15% of the time, at times on very short notice. Required: Preferred: Education and Typical Years Experience: • BS, MS or equivalent degree in Computer Science or engineering field. • 10+ years industry experience with a minimum of 5 years in a technical management capacity.
