Minimum Experience/Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
8 years of directly related experience in contracts and grants and/or research administration in a university or equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition the successful candidate will have: -Sufficient management and professional experience, business acumen, judgment and integrity to effectively serve faculty and sponsors while protecting, representing and advancing the University's best interests -Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience working within the research environment at a major university or institute, -Working knowledge of outside funding agency procedures and compliance requirements and regulations of sponsored research; -Contracting and subcontracting practices; -legal distinctions between gifts, grants, knowledge of federal agency practices, regulations and policies; and cost accounting standards; -Evidence of leadership success in comparable situations; -Demonstrated supervisory skills; -Ability to work with a variety of constituencies and the capacity to produce creative and innovative solutions and approaches to common problems; -Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the willingness to reach out to various stakeholders; -Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; -Experience in preparation and negotiation of facilities and administrative rate proposals. Departmental Required Skills: Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Experience in both pre-award and post award research administration. Experience with creating/implementing new software programs that create efficient campus processes in research administration. Essential Job Duties: Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Financial Services, the Director of Contracts and Grants provides strategic and operational leadership for all areas of post-award sponsored programs administration at NC State University. Responsibilities include the post-award accounting functions, time and effort system and certifications, preparation and negotiation of facilities and administrative rate proposals, administration of the annual OMB Circular A-133 audit and periodic agency audits, the creation and implementation of related policies, business processes, and oversight of systems and training. The Director must work closely with the University's pre-award unit (which reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education) and provide standard-setting and leadership for other central-administration and college-based administrative departments. The Director will ensure that the post-award sponsored programs administration function is highly responsive to the needs of faculty, researchers, and campus staff, and that it demonstrates a strong customer service ethic while at the same time ensuring University compliance with Federal, State, Board of Governors, and University policies and procedures.
