Job Description:

Successful candidate must have the following specific skills:

• A complete understanding of the software engineering process from software planning through software verification.

• Excellent leadership skills with proven experience leading software development and software design projects.

• An interest and demonstrated ability leading and developing people and processes.

• A thorough understanding of software design, implementation, debug, integration and test.

• A highly productive team player with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Ensure the performance of their direct reports and that the defined software engineering process is continuously improving and being followed by all engineers.

• Manage a team of highly talented engineers by setting individual goals, performing employee reviews and coordinating training/career development.

• Ensure that their staff is productive and efficient in completing their assigned project work by assisting them in achieving their technical, cost and schedule objectives, as needed.

• Monitor direct reports to ensure continuing adherence to software engineering processes and approaches on a program.

• Help drive efficient processes, create best practices for software development of their functional area as well a perform code and design reviews.

• Responsible for career counseling for each direct report with performance feedback throughout the year.

• Prepare and administer annual performance reviews of direct reports.

• Responsible for career growth and retention of staff.

• Focus of the Software Engineering Unit Manager is primarily leadership and management, however, may be asked at times to perform direct contract work as time permits.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering discipline, Masters Degree preferred.

• 10 years of technical experience in software development with at least 1 year experience managing a software development team.

• Must meet eligibility requirements for access to DoD classified information.
