About Us:

The New York Racing Association, Inc. is a private, non-profit association that owns and operates the three largest racetracks in New York : Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga . Last year, more than two million people attended the races at NYRA tracks and enjoyed the finest quality of thoroughbred racing in the world.

At Aqueduct in Ozone Park, Queens, construction is planned for the addition of a casino with 4,500 Video Lottery Terminals (such as video poker, video slot machines, etc.).

Opportunity:

The Fire Marshal Sergeant reports directly to the Chief of Patrol and is responsible for ensuring compliance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards as well as NYS Building and New York City codes as they pertain to Fire Safety.

Repsonsibilities:
  • Evaluates inspection and performance of patrolmen assigned to fire prevention in barn areas at both Belmont and Aqueduct Racetracks.
  • Keeps computers updated as to the location of data strips.
  • Conducts fire prevention, inspection of barns, grandstands, and dormitories.
  • Inspects and maintains all firefighting equipment.
  • Conducts semi annual inspections of fire hydrants and sprinkler connections.
  • Trains patrolmen and other NYRA personnel; in implementing the evacuation plans for each facility.
  • Assists as a member of the emergency fire response team prior to arrival of Fire Department at emergencies.
  • Coordinates with Facilities Manager maintenance of the Fire Alarm System.
Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in law enforcement Fire Department or security with safety or Fire Prevention responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.
  • Expertise in Fire Safety and the management of safety programs.
  • Ability to assess hazardous conditions.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards
  • Good verbal, written and computer skills required.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
