POLICE OFFICER
Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Patrol Supervisor, prevents and suppresses criminal activity, secures University grounds and facilities, maintains traffic and parking control, investigates vehicle accidents, and enforces Federal, state, and local laws as well as University regulations and policies.
Essential Functions: 1. Provides security surveillance of University facilities. 2. Enforces federal, state, and local laws and ordinances and University regulations and policies. 3. Investigates traffic accidents and criminal offenses and prepares investigation and special reports. 4. Monitors and provides traffic and parking control. 5. Opens and closes buildings, turns light on and off as needed. 6. Monitors external grounds lighting and generates physical plant work orders for light replacement when needed. 7. Prevents and suppresses crime by being highly visible and by performing aggressive and continuous foot and vehicular patrol. 8. Assists University persons and visitors by providing general information, battery jump-starts, opening locked vehicles, and airing tires.
Additional Responsibilities: 1. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Ability to lift heavy loads, stand and walk for long periods, and drive patrol vehicles in all weather conditions and under hazardous conditions. 2. Ability to cope with stress and react professionally in stressful situations. 3. Ability to maintain a good relationship with the University faculty, staff, students, and visitors. 4. Ability to accomplish tasks in a professional and expeditious manner. 5. Ability to successfully complete the TCLEOSE required physical exam, psychological exam, and drug screen. 6. Ability to work holidays and required shifts to include days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends.
Education and Experience: 1. Must have current TCLEOSE peace officer’s certification. 2. Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
