Job Purpose: The Director provides direct project leadership and oversight as well as supervising staff as appropriate in the delivery of client services. The Director utilizes specific subject matter knowledge as it pertains to clinical supply cost reduction and value analysis, as well as customer relations skills, to contribute to the engagement, primarily through client development, training and education in those areas.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supply Cost Reduction. Provide leadership for supply cost reduction activities at a group and hospital level including: tracking of type of savings opportunity, timelines/project planning, development/enhancement of associated tools to implement savings, strategies for success, advice for vendor and physician meetings, and processes or steps needed to achieve desired outcomes. The Director will identify and quantify opportunities for supply cost reduction and product standardization taking into account what is best for the system, a subset of the system, and each individual hospital. The Director will lead cost reduction initiatives such that individual hospitals can achieve their savings goals. Success will be defined as the timely meeting of all material project deliverables included in the engagement contract. Success will also be defined as the willingness of the key customer contact to serve as a reference for Aspen services.
- Project Management. The Director will be expected to develop and maintain relationships with executives at both the system and hospital level in order to fully understand the initiatives facing the facilities. The Director will assist with hospital strategy development, data interpretation, and advice on implementation activities that lead to cost savings. The Director will coordinate and lead meetings among hospitals and task forces as appropriate, and participate in any such decisions or discussions that would impact cost savings for an individual hospital or the entire system. When applicable, the Director will utilize process improvement techniques and activities to enhance hospital consensus.
- Value Analysis. The Director will assess and develop value analysis processes on a system level to include proposed value analysis committee membership, criteria for products to be addressed, and steps for evaluation and action. Once approved, the Director shall be responsible for providing leadership and support for implementation of recommendations made by the value analysis committee.
- Client support and communication. The Director will coordinate and participate in all key project activities, such as: any conference calls involving the client and MedAssets, group executive committee meetings, council meetings, and regularly scheduled client calls at the hospital level. The Director will be expected to maintain a master calendar of all calls and related follow up items, as well as communicate in a professional and timely manner any action items to hospital staff. Additionally, the Director will coordinate data flow and acquisition in relation to MedAssets and Aspen products, and will serve as the key point person for any such requests or data issues. The Director will also communicate project status/progress to MedAssets.
- Other responsibilities. The President, Senior Vice President, or Vice President may assign other strategic and/or operational responsibilities to the Director.
Internal Responsibilities:
- Adheres to all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to those identified within the Standards of Business Conduct and the Employee Handbook, as may be amended from time to time. Adheres to all applicable laws and regulations and the company's governance/compliance program.
- Responsible for reporting violations of the company's policies and procedures, Standards of Business Conduct, governance program, laws and regulations through the company's Help Line or other mechanism that may be available at the time of the violation. Assists with internal control failure remediation efforts.
- Becomes knowledgeable of internal control responsibilities through training and instruction. Responsible and accountable for internal control performance within their area of responsibility. Participates in the internal controls self-assessment process.
- Ensures concerns with internal control design or performance and process changes that impact internal control execution are communicated to management.
Minimum Knowledge, Competencies & Qualifications:
- Ten years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Master’s degree and/or relevant experience in a health care-related field required.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience required.
- Previous experience in communicating, establishing positive relationships and achieving consensus in large, complex, political environments.
- Knowledge of standard clinical and operating procedures and general finance in an acute care setting required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD9 codes, CPT codes, and DRG codes required.
- Previous cost management or consulting experience required,). Prior experience with project management and coordination also necessary.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, coworkers, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
- Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills, is detail-oriented.
- Able to prioritize workload and work effectively with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work concurrently on multiple projects with several teams.
- Is highly skilled in the use of personal computers and related software applications, including but not limited to intermediate knowledge of the following Microsoft products: Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Travel:
Travel is required.
Physical Demands:
Duties typically are performed in an interior, office work environment. Position involves air and car travel to client sites across the United States. Position involves sitting at a computer for extended periods of time. Requires manual dexterity required to operate standard office equipment including but not limited to a computer keyboard and telephone.
