Making Life Even Better. Program Manager at Life Technologies: Program Managers are responsible for leading new product introduction (NPI) teams. A Program Manager’s responsibility is twofold: · To represent the organization in assuring the teams follow product development best practices, and in some cases adhere to specific regulatory requirements, as they lead project teams through the product commercialization process (PCP). This includes assuring design control and thereby long term product supportability, as well as delivering the agreed upon business value. · To demonstrate and adhere to project management best practices, with the goal of not only delivering a product of high quality and value to the organization, but delivering within the agreed upon project contract metrics of schedule, resources, budget and scope. Detailed Description: Role Responsibility and Authority: · Develop and assertively drive new product commercialization program timelines and budgets in coordination with other departments/teams. · Responsible for all aspects of product development from Concept, to Product Launch and completing with Project Closure. · Acts as project champion and project “general manager”; manages team to execute all project deliverables; leads cross-functional core team. · Coordinates, synchronizes and manages overall project schedule. Accountable for execution on project timelines. · Uses Project Management best practices to manage projects, effectively initiating, planning and controlling. · Manages a project budget; tracks actual versus plan and resolves issues as they arise. · Responsible for planning resource requirements and negotiating Core Team resources with functional managers; assist Core Team Members in negotiating extended team staffing. · Facilitates identification and mitigation of program risks. Highlights business implications of identified risks. · Reviews team progress against requirements and plans; resolves deviations. · Assists Core Team Members in resolving extended team and functional issues. · Acts as information conduit between the Core Team and Sr. Mgmt; prepares and presents Phase Reviews to Product Approval Committee (PAC) as Core Team representative. · Notifies Sr. Mgmt of schedule and budget deviations beyond allowed variances as well as other contract elements; initiates Exception Reviews as required. · Contributes to performance evaluation of Core Team Members Key Duties: · Identify appropriate resources needed and develop schedule to ensure timely completion of project · Regularly track and communicate project status to all stakeholders · Schedule and facilitate all necessary meetings associated with product development · Assess, communicate and manage risk · Conduct constructive lessons-learned analysis of completed projects · Work with R&D, Product Management, Manufacturing Development, Manufacturing and Business Development to insure successful project completion and product launch · Solve problems and manage crises effectively and independently · Other duties as assigned Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: · Bachelor's degree (B. S. or B.A.), preferred in the Life Sciences, from four-year college or university · 4 or more years of combined product development and project management experience, of which a portion must be in the life sciences · PMP certification preferred Preferable Skills and Attributes: · Work is performed without significant direction · Able to recommend modifications to the overall direction of project for desired results · Works on complex, multi-faceted problems where analysis may require in depth analysis · Solves problems in imaginative and practical manner · Able to make decisions that impact project timeline, budget, strategic fit and viability to business. · Interacts and builds effective relationships with core and extended team members, functional managers, senior management, and customers. · Able to influence others or gain acceptance in sensitive situations · Develops and delivers original persuasive presentations to larger groups · Gathers feedback on process and practice improvements
