Position:

Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs

Location: TBD

The position will report to the Executive Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of ACE Group Global and Industry Affairs. In addition, the position will work closely with the General Counsel, North America regarding regulatory affairs and product management. The role will preferably be located in our Philadelphia office. Significant travel will be involved.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

As the top state government affairs executive this role is responsible for managing an internal and external team to 1) monitor and influence outcomes involving state legislation and regulation and 2) communicate regulatory and legislative enactments to appropriate parties within ACE to insure that ACE maintains compliance will all applicable state law.

This position will manage a team of state government affairs professionals and support staff and will retain and supervise outside consultants, law firms and lobbyists where needed. As a manger, the candidate will be responsible for providing guidance to professional staff regarding positions, strategies and contacts to positively advance ACE’s agenda.

The candidate will work with the businesses regarding new market entry and product development and develop strategies to resolve political and/or regulatory hurdles affecting ACE's existing operations. Finally, they will identify opportunities for ACE senior management to engage state government officials and business groups to support ACE's priority policy issues. This role will serve as the ACE representative to various associations and will be frequently called upon to communicate policy messages to both internal and external audiences.

This position requires an accomplished candidate with strong academic credentials, relationships with State Department of Insurance Officials and State legislative Officials and Staff as well as a developed technical background in Property and Casualty regulatory and legislative matters, particularly in personal lines and workers’ compensation.

The ideal candidate will have:

* 15+ years of private and/or public sector experience in state government affairs.

* Bachelor's degree required/graduate or legal degree desired.

* Property Casualty legislative/regulatory experience required.

* Good relationships with State Legislatures and Departments of Insurance and other insurance related state agencies required.

* Proven leadership ability.

* Ability to take a collaborative approach to problem solving with comfort in working in a matrix environment.

* Strong conflict resolution skills. Comfort in dealing with senior management on a variety of complex issues; ability to communicate complicated concepts both through written and verbal means to the highest levels of senior management.

* Ability to manage multiple changing agendas in a fast paced environment.

* High level of attention to detail.

* Ability to communicate with and influence multiple stakeholders within the organization.

Compensation:
