CANCER PROGRAM COORDINATOR



This posision is located in a pleasant Virginia coastal area community.

The Coordinator can work two days a week work from home.

GENERAL PURPOSE :

The Cancer Program Coordinator assures the operation and development of the Cancer Data Registry to support continued American College of Surgeons accreditation, productivity of the registry, integrity of the data and the overall growth of future growth and development of the Cancer Service Line. Supervises the Cancer Data Registrar and Registry Volunteers

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

· Responsible for the effective, efficient operation of the Cancer Data Registry including

- Staff productivity

- Timeliness in abstracting and reporting

- Data integrity

· Work collaboratively with the Cancer Committee Chair and Service Line Administrator to assure the highest level of compliance with standards of the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) for an accredited Cancer Program ensuring compliance.

· Recommend fiscal or budgetary requirements necessary to maintain service within the Registry.

· Recruit, select, train, and supervise Registry staff and volunteers.

· Recommend various personnel actions including hiring, performance reviews, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.

· Plan, develop, and manage the orientation, educational programs, and in-service training for Registry staff.

· Work collaboratively with the Cancer Committee Chair and the Service Line Administrator to coordinate Cancer Committee meetings including preparation of the agenda and documentation of studies for review by the Committee.

· Accurately abstract new cases from inpatient, outpatient, radiation oncology, and radiology patient records into the hospital computerized registry database.

· Coordinate quality assurance and improvement activities for the Cancer Program to include:

- Quarterly quality reviews of the Cancer Registry abstracts

- Long and short term annual audits in coordination with the Cancer Committee as required by ACoS

- Provide research data and statistical reports including all studies required by the ACoS

- Participate in the performance improvement program of the service line.

· Coordinate the preparation and publication of the Cancer Program Annual Report to meet the objectives of the organization and the ACoS.

· Serve as a liaison between department, Information Systems, and system vendors.

· Coordinate, develop, and maintain written procedures and instructions for the Registry.

· Establish and maintain positive relationships with medical staff, hospital staff, and HIS Department managers.

· Exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Show courtesy, compassion, honesty, and respect to others in the adherence to the Hospital's mission, philosophy, and policy for promoting a positive work and customer environment.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Education : Certification as a Cancer Data Registrar required. Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor’s preferred. Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, staging and cancer programs required. Ability to organize and present information in large and small groups verbally and in writing

Experience : Three to five years recent management experience in an accredited Cancer Program required. Experience with multiple computerized Registry software packages preferred, SEER staging required.
