Overview:
Develop, train and lead store staffs in driving sales for Macy's Merchandising Group (MMG) Private Label Brands. Be entrepreneurial and use resources creatively to develop and execute business-driving strategies. Build loyalty to MMG Private Brands and the Retail Development program. Act as a liaison to Stores, Merchants and MMG. Key Accountabilities:
Training and Selling Capabilities - Partner with the GSM's to ensure distribution and understanding of MMG training materials, most importantly the BRAND GUIDES.
- Train the trainers. Focus on training those who manage a team of associates.
- Plan and execute seasonal training seminars for all stores on rotation.
- Train MTM's and Visual teams on brand appropriate visual and merchandising presentation standards.
- Provide on-the-floor training to the sales associates on the features and benefits of MMG brands.
- Set the standard for customer service by demonstrating professionalism and product knowledge to exceed the customer's expectations.
- Recruit, interview, train and participate in the development for all private brand-selling specialists/work leads.
Communication - Partner with Store Managers and RMM's on the execution of planned business-driving strategies.
- Initiate "floor walks" during store visits with key members of management. Discuss issues from previous visits, objectives, business driving opportunities, volume drivers, competitive selling, etc.
- Through Store Visit Recaps, communicate expectations, challenges and follow-up to division and MMG management.
- Provide feedback to MMG product teams and Retail Development on the competition, in-store adversity, assortment issues/opportunities and customer remarks.
- Utilize all brand appropriate recaps/reports.
Business Analysis - Develop, implement and communicate actionable sales driving strategies identified by analyzing sales performance. Also use the same data to identify poor performance and product weakness.
- Evaluate square footage and fixture allocation of private brands in order to determine if it is appropriate to volume, trend, and stock levels.
- Participate in conference calls to strategize on business opportunities (Brand team, Program Manager, Buying Office, etc).
Merchandising and Visual Presentation - SET THE STANDARD FOR PRESENTATION. Using Brand Guide provide hands on training, communication of brand visual and merchandising standards, etc to achieve results. Partnerships and store accountability is key.
- Work with RMM and/or in-store partners to identify and secure BEST real estate appropriate for the brand.
- Plan and execute seasonal flow of goods. Partner with MTM, GSM, Visual staff and selling specialists to review new deliveries and establish a sense of "PRIORITY" for all private brands.
- Partner with store staff and management to ensure standards are maintained between visits.
- Monitor stock rooms to ensure they are organized with minimal receipts in the back room.
- Ensure efficient floor replenishment strategy. Develop a game plan with the MTM, specialist, etc.
- Partner with store staff to ensure markdowns are executed as scheduled, signed, and easy to shop.
- Partner with Visual to ensure all graphics are current and mannequins reflect the lifestyle of the brand.
- Communicate recommendations for shop enhancements to Program Managers.
Skills Summary: As a Retail Development Manager, one must be self-motivated, disciplined and possess the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. - Experience within Macy's preferred but not required.
- Merchandising, buying, or management skills are required.
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at many different levels.
- Must possess a sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize.
- Computer proficient in Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word and Lotus Notes.
