SAN Administrator

Job Description:

Kforce is seeking a SANS Administrator for a Suitland client in a 6 month temp-to-perm opportunity! The qualified candidate will perform a SAN Administrator role for a variety of difficult assignments associated with the implementation, monitoring and maintenance of multiple SANs in a multi-datacenter environment. This person analyzes system faults/performance, troubleshoots, and runs diagnostic tests to detect problems; supports multiple/concurrent system development projects; and evaluates and installs SAN management tools/applications. This person maintains high levels of system performance and makes recommendations for continued improvement; reviews and prepares SAN documentation; and recommends methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. This person initiates preventive maintenance on the SAN as well as repair system problems; administers systems solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules; and supports the planning of system requirements for individual projects. This person also works on problems of moderate scope and ensures project schedules and performance requirements are met. This person can provide work direction and guidance to others and may be responsible for the technical direction, leadership, and training of less experienced staff. This person can determine methods and procedures to be used on new assignments. The Administrator contributes to the development of the organization's goals and objectives; interfaces with vendors for trouble calls; and regularly interacts with functional group managers and key users to ensure operational integrity. Interactions normally involve matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units.

SAN Administrator Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related technical discipline or experience with Microsoft, Sun, In-systems administration plus 10+ years of operating systems experience
  • You may have 6 years of experience in lieu of the degree
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in computer operations, data processing, management information systems, or systems administration
  • Be experienced in complex SAN environments with multiple UNIX/Windows hosts
  • Ability to develop and manage system documentation including standard operating procedures, routine status reports; and script development, testing, and implementation
  • Capability to research, understand, and follow-through on deployment of security protocols and enhancements to ensure a secure operating environment
  • Familiarity with system back-up strategies utilizing various tape, optical, or magnetic disk technologies
  • Familiarity with various high availability and Disaster Recovery techniques
  • Assist in processes involving change management, vendor management, problem escalation, and project management
  • Ability to provide 7x 24x365 support using pager, cell phone, and remote access tools
Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States of America. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Preferences:
  • Experience as an on-site contractor working in a team setting with a government client
  • Experience providing computing infrastructure support over the system lifecycle
  • Experience/exposure to CMMI and ITIL Best Practices
  • Capability to work in complex heterogeneous system environments; but this candidate's focus will be on SAN administration
  • Experience with UNIX and Windows System administration
  • Desire to develop experience with blade servers, virtual servers, and storage solutions in support of large-scale data driven applications
