CHIEF INFORMATION SECURITY OFFICER (09/10-034) Job Scope: Sets the direction and leads the implementation and operation of the campus-wide information security program to safeguard the confidential information, assets, and intellectual property belonging to The University of Texas-Pan American and associated relationships. This is a proactive leadership position responsible for ensuring that the University complies with all relevant statutes and policies, for communicating them to others, and for determining the direction of the institution's information security program. The CISO is a member of the senior IT management team and as such is responsible for briefing university executives on security matters. He or she must possess the necessary communications skills (written and public speaking) to advocate and promulgate security awareness within the whole University community. The CISO will develop, administer, and execute a comprehensive information security program whose elements will include policy, procedures, guidelines, security architectures, risk assessments, disaster recovery, and business continuity, in order to protect the information assets of the University and ensure compliance with UTPA, UT System, state, and federal laws and regulations. Additionally the CISO serves as the interface with local, state, and federal law enforcement for information security-related issues. Requirements: A candidate for this position should have a Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of five (5) years experience in auditing or managing Information Technology with one (1) year serving in an IT Security capacity or equivalent combination of formal training within this field; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree and a minimum of above required work experience will also be considered. A broad working knowledge of information security methods and practices is required. The applicant should have familiarity with FERPA, TAC 202, Sarbanes-Oxley, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley. Knowledge of risk assessment and business recovery strategies, data security controls, and information security tools is required.
