There are three positions available at our West Point, PA site. Merck's West Point site is in a prime location approximately 25 miles north of Philadelphia. The site is easily accessible via car or public transportation. Housing and transportation are not provided. Responsibilities include execution of planned activities on the evaluation of container systems for supporting stability and marketing suitability studies for new pharmaceutical products in both solid and liquid dosage forms. Laboratory work includes determination of moisture sorption isotherms (MSI) for various products and packaging components, novel head-space analysis, installation of custom-made apparatus, design and implementation of various product characterization studies quantifying the interaction of moisture and oxygen with labile products, thermal characterization of materials, and use of non-destructive techniques to evaluate package integrity. Non- laboratory tasks include compilation and analysis of data, and mathematical modeling (Math-CAD) of packaging systems. This co-op program has been very rewarding since 2000 for both the students and our organization. Qualifications This position requires applicants to be pursuing a degree (BS/MS) in Chemical Engineering or a related field. Completion of at least freshmen year of a BS degree is required. A Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 is preferred. Ideal candidate will be proficient with MS Office programs. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is based in West Point, PA. Candidate must be available for 6 months beginning in March 2010. Housing will not be provided.
