Materials Manager
Manage and Plan the movement of materials into, through and out of the manufacturing facilities. Includes Raw Material Planning, Receiving, Production Control, Direct and Indirect Purchasing, Information Technology and Finished Goods Warehouse & Distribution.
Manage the scheduling / Production Control processes and systems for the factory as well as raw, in-process and finished goods inventories. Responsible for the introduction maintenance and continuous improvement of pull and flow processes as well as visual control systems in the factories.
Manage the flow of product through the factory, including in some plants the management of plant truckers and product delivery personnel. Manage the purchasing / sourcing systems for the plant.
Lead the transformational and change processes required to drive and develop an Advantaged Supply Chain.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and execute systems that continuously improve the movement of product through the factories. Develop cost effective systems for delivery of raw materials to the factory and for delivery of finished goods to the customer.
Manage the Production Control function for the factory. Introduce efficient scheduling systems, including kanban systems where appropriate. Coordinate scheduling decisions with corporate Production Planning department. Manage plant "Schedule Attainment" objectives.
Analyze costs of product delivery systems and develop solutions to continuously reduce the costs of supplying product- from raw materials to finished goods. Analyze reasons for inventory and implement solutions to prevent product delivery problems.
Manage the purchasing systems for the plant. Responsible for developing integrated sourcing solutions that maintain the most efficient inventory levels. Develop relationships with suppliers that continuously improve the plant's puurchasing cost structure.
Manage the hourly and salaried staff associates. Assure all associates are properly trained and developmental plans are followed. Develop and build teams.
Experience:
Minimum of five years operations management, planning, materials management, procurement and logistics experience. Experience in product delivery systems, including traditional scheduling systems and kanban systems, Sequencing and Heijunka, and Bus Route and Supermarket systems. Transformational or turn-around experience is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
Requires the ability to direct cross-functional work groups to achieve product delivery objectives. Requires strong communication, influence, business, technical, analytical and planning skills. Thorough understanding of Take time and Lean product delivery syststems. Expertise in "pull" systems and product flow concepts. Strong computer skills necessary for plant scheduling management. Knowledge of tire technology a plus. Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills. Knowledge of kanban and scheduling systems. Proven ability to manage salaried associates and multiple functions. Ability to effectively work with external resources including suppliers and customers.
