A Military police officer helps handle crimes committed by or involving military personnel. Plus, the military police is responsible for enforcing military laws and property, controlling traffic, responding to emergencies and providing support in combat zones by conducting area security, intelligence operations, internment and resettlement, and related operations. The duties of a military police officer include: - Patrolling military sites on foot or by car or boat - Interviewing suspects and witnesses during a crime investigation - Collecting evidence - Arresting suspects - Training and working with police dogs - Guarding military sites and controlling traffic Training Military training usually is scheduled to accommodate a member's civilian life, whether it is for the job or school. Each member first attends Initial Entry Training. After basic training, a solider then reports for Advanced Individual Training, which may vary in length depending on your specialty. Training continues for one drill weekend each month and one annual training period, which is usually two weeks in the summer. Helpful skills An ideal candidate for a military police officer should: - Be interest in law enforcement and crime prevention - Remain calm in stressful situations - Think and react quickly
