Medical Assistant (Pedi, weekends): Austin Regional Clinic
PURPOSE: Under close supervision of nursing leadership, supports provider practice by assisting with direct patient care duties. May perform diagnostic testing, maintain supply inventory levels, and clean and maintain medical equipment. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: ● Rooms patients, takes and documents vital signs and prepares patients for provider exam. ● Administers medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice as demonstrated by completion of training and testing. ● Calls patients and informs of normal lab results. ● Calls pharmacy with prescription refill prescriptions as prescribed by and under the direction of the physician. ● Follows directions given by nursing team leader or supervisor. ● Provides patients with educational materials as directed. ● Performs diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings as instructed and completes all necessary paperwork. ● Assists providers with sigmoidoscopy exams and cardiac stress testing by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam. Completes all necessary paperwork. ● Maintains equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc.) ● Monitors inventory of medical and/or office supplies and equipment, ensuring units and/or rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration dates. Orders supplies as needed. ● Cleans patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry. ● Ensures laundry cart is stocked with fresh linens on a daily basis.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ● May post patient test results on the PTR line. ● Performs other duties within the scope of unlicensed personnel as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of medical assistant program or military MA program preferred.
Experience: Previous work experience as a Medical Assistant (6 months minimum in a physician's office).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ● Knowledge of medical terminology ● Knowledge of the scope of practice in the Medical Assistant role ● Good interpersonal skills ● Excellent organizational skills ● Ability to give injections within 90 days of hire ● Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment ● Ability to work as a team member ● Previous experience with and/or ability to learn and utilize computer applications.
Certificate/License: Medical Assistant certification preferred.
Work Schedule: Saturday & Sunday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
