Complete Description

Coordinates the technical and clinical aspects of the Respiratory Services. The Team Leader participates as an active member of the patient care team and offers support and guidance for the other therapist. In addition, the team leader may be asked to assist in administrative duties in the absence of the Department Director. Guides Patient Assessment: Participates as a member of the integrated healthcare team that collects and organizes data regarding the patient's history and physical assessment to formulate an individualized plan of care. Coordinates Therapeutic Respiratory Therapy: Provides basic O2 therapy, aerosolized medication administration, Chest Physical Therapy, hyperexpansion therapy, airway management and mechanical ventilation. Supervises Emergency airway management: Responds as a member of the Code team to provide airway support including intubation for authorized staff members. Monitors Mechanical Ventilation: Responsible for the management of patients that require mechanical ventilation to include non-invasive positive pressure ventilation. Ensures patient and family education: Responsible for assessing patient and family needs for education, providing resources necessary and confirming that educational goals have been achieved. Coordinates Diagnostics and equipment: Responsible for basic diagnostic Respiratory Therapy to include but not limited to Arterial Blood Gases, screening spirometry, EKGs and pulse oximetry. Some Team Leaders may perform Stress Test, EEG and complete PFTs. Certified as a Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care. Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy school with an Associates degree preferred. Exception: Therapists that were credentialed and licensed as OJT therapists. One year of clinical experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in an accredited school or other Heath care facility. Licensed by the State of Georgia as a Respiratory Care Professional
