Technical Consultant

As a key member of the pre-sales Technology Consulting team, the sales engineer works with regional account managers to drive sales of EMC Resource Management solutions.

The pre-sales Technology Consultant provides technical and IT operations and process-related consultancy to accounts. The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of service management process and methodologies. The candidate will participate as an important part of the sales cycles executing task such as presentations, architecture discussions, and demonstrations. Broad knowledge of EMC Resource Management products and strategies and understand future direction as well as technical roadmaps. The pre-sales Technology Consultant responsible for identifying sales opportunities within accounts and identifying issues that may affect customer satisfaction or revenue attainment. Developing and maintaining relationships with key individuals within the customer account and becoming a trusted adviser to these individuals is a key skill required for success.

This fast pace position requires an understanding of current ITSM, network, storage and application technologies, the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, The ability to work effectively within a team structure as well as within an unsupervised environment, and the desire to learn and excel.

Position Requirements
· Demonstrated knowledge of technical solutions and ability to influence sales
· Experience in solutions development in customer facing organizations
· Excellent written and verbal communications skills and personal accountability
· Develops and delivers clear, concise, coordinated presentations and advice to customers on complex environments based on input from customers, Sales, Software Consulting, Professional Services, R&D, Marketing and own personal experiences

Other Responsibilities include:


  • Conducting presentations to technical and executive audiences

  • Conducting proof-of-concept sessions to demonstrate technical capabilities

  • Providing pre-sales assistance to evaluators to demonstrate technical fit

  • Assists sales managers/sales reps in preparation of proposals

  • Build technical relationships within customers and prospects

  • Assist NAM in Building Return on Investment / Purchase Justification documents for prospects

  • Maintains an advanced technical understanding of products

  • Assists prospects in resolving IT process and technical problems


Required skills:
Technical Skills ( required … )

  • Experience personally deploying at least 2 of the following: IT Services Management, application management, and business management software

  • Knowledge of IT architectures and concepts

  • Windows, UNIX/Linux and/or network administration knowledge is desired

  • Knowledge of applications management



  • Previous experience with IT Services Management (ITSM) solutions

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and personal accountability

  • Familiarity with systems management and monitoring solutions

  • Basic Scripting skills (ie Perl, Unix) or some HTML knowledge


Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related degree (or equivalent experience)

  • Experience as a Sales or Support Engineer in a customer-facing role ( 1 – 3 yrs )

  • ITIL foundation certification minimum
