This Job Description provides criteria for evaluation of the Registered Nurse working in a staff position in the CV Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). The Staff RN assigned to the CVICU provides care for children, adolescents, adults and geriatric patients.
Experience:
1. Prior/current CVICU experience.

Education:
1. Graduate of accredited school of nursing
2. Educational requirements appropriate for meeting age-specific needs of patients assigned to the CVICU, which could include children up to geriatric patients.

Children:
1. Knowledge of growth and development
2. Knowledge of normal lab values for pediatric patients
3. Knowledge of appropriate medication dosages for pediatric patients
4. Knowledge of common diseases/abnormalities of pediatric patients
5. Understanding of family dynamics and interaction
6. Knowledge of appropriate immunizations
7. Knowledge of emergency procedures required for stabilization of pediatric patients

Adolescents:
1. Knowledge deficit
2. Anxiety R/T hospitalization
3. Alteration in nutrition, less than or greater than body requirements
4. Potential for injury
5. Powerlessness
6. Coping, ineffective individual or family
7. Disturbance in self-concept
