Job Summary
The selected candidate will possess the ability to train, review and mentor coding staff. The selected candidate will develop and present training tools for Medical Coders and other UNC HealthCare staff. Also, will provide input to the Supervisor for personnel and performance evaluation and actions. Utilizing the 3M ICD-9/CPT Codefinder/Grouper software the Lead Coder will assign codes and sequence all diagnosis and procedures performed for inpatients and outpatient ambulatory surgery, observations, GI Procedure/Cardiac Cath/Bronchoscopy and ancillary cases. The selected candidate will demonstrate excellent ICD-9-CM/CPT coding, anatomy, physiology and medical terminology knowledge. An excellent knowledge of the DRG/APC payment methodology is also expected. The selected candidate ensures optimal reimbursement by following all guidelines and regulations. The candidate will utilize WebCIS electronic medical record, SoftMed ClinTrac, 3M Encoder and other software as appropriate to compile and validate medical information.
Requires AA/BA/BS degree in Health Information Technology/related field and AHIMA, AAPC or AAMA certification or RN/:PN license and 36 months of medical coding experience and successful completion of our Coder Proficiency Test.
