Director, Research, Private Asset Management-1686295 DescriptionThe Director of Research for the TIAA-CREF Trust Company will occupy a unique position integral to the division's build out.
Responsibilities for the build out include the following:
- Work with the Lead Equity Manager to implement a strategic plan for the institution and to build out a research department (fundamental equities and capital markets research) which will be a resource for the Trust company and Wealth Management.
- Coordination, management and delivery of research and resources to be available to PMs on an ongoing basis- 1) Internally generated research opinions on a broad universe of large and mid cap companies, 2) Work with Lead Equity Manager to coordinate third party research providers, 3) Provide input and assist in drafting equity research commentaries.
- Organize and participate in weekly portfolio management team discussions regarding market insights to include third party analysts, economists, and strategists to support the model portfolio.
- Deliver team education on best practices and ongoing themes in the Wealth Management arena, as well as updates on new products and tactical shifts to augment portfolio strategies.
- Over time, will assist Lead Equity Manager in market assessment and development of new equity portfolio products.
On-going Responsibilities:
- Perform original research and distribute conclusions and insights to the PMs on an ongoing basis.
- Manage portfolio manager requests regarding the changes in the markets, upgrades/downgrades, company earnings reports
- Manage Watch Lists for Equity PMs
- Distribute changing information proactively
- Ensure that individual PM research requests are answered in a timely manner.
- Write commentaries covering broad market themes with a primary emphasis on the quarterly Gaining Trust commentary or investment themes as well as notes from relevant industry events
- Coordinate as needed with Marketing and Investment Communications Group.
- Keep up to date on Product Developments initiatives
- Stay up to date and active with trends in the equities markets through reading, speaking to analysts and strategists, attending lectures and conferences, etc
- Develop and maintain "Best Practices" for a research department
- Assist in the development of an annual budget for the Trust Company; coordinate costs with Finance and Investment Services and within Trust Co; initiate contracts and negotiate fees for services not used and negotiated by Investment Services; ensure timely payment by working with Finance; maintain costs at or below budget.
- Assist in the hiring, management, and training of the research team (currently 2 Associates)
- Support Trust Company asset gathering and retention goals.
- Meet with Team Leads and PMs to ensure that research team is evolving to meet their research needs.
- Support the Lead Equity Manager with fundamental research.
Qualifications
- 8-15 years in the investment business, as a portfolio manager and/or analyst
- Experience with publishing responsibilities- research, quarterly/yearly letters
- Bachelor's degree in business or finance required; MBA and/or CFA preferred;
- Demonstrates the required technical and analytical expertise to monitor and evaluate equity investment policies and services.
- Management of work groups involved in fundamental equity research processes
- Excellent communication, relationship building and analytical skills
