General Summary: The position of Lead Tech of Lab Support Services, Point of Care (POCT) testing, and liaison with the clinic phlebotomy staff has the following identified elements: the primary goals of this position are to ensure that the phlebotomy and specimen processing section collects and processes clinical specimens accurately and in a timely manner in order that the turnaround time goals of the laboratory are met. This includes management of lab assistants of varying skill levels who draw blood and process specimens, as well as data entry personnel creating records in the Cerner LIS prior to entry into the HIS. The coordinating elements include 1) the development of standard processing and phlebotomy practices, 2) investigation and remediation of quality problems related to these activities, 3) development and oversight of new employee training, 4) write new procedures as needed in response to LIS changes, new services, or new business requirements, 5) regular reassessment of workload through specimen mapping and productivity analysis, and 6)monitor test turnaround times for all pre-analytical functions.
This position must also perform clinical laboratory analysis as assigned. Responsible for coordinating the management of laboratory testing at the patient bedside (POCT) at Providence Medical Center. This position must also perform clinical laboratory analysis as assigned.
Required: Licensed Medical Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or equivalent). Must have minimum 5 years progressive laboratory experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting. · Familiarity with all aspects of lab support department operations, including cost effective management of labor and supplies. · Familiarity with workflow and operational processes between technical and non-technical laboratory functions. · Demonstrated ability to achieve operational improvement. · Ability to identify root causes for operational variances and to remediate.· Demonstrated ability to resolve service failures. · Demonstrated ability to work with disparate groups with competing priorities.· Demonstrated analytical ability and attention to detail.· Ability to handle multiple, competing priorities.· Ability to communicate clearly and comfortably with all levels of management.· Ability to work effectively with disparate groups to gain consensus.· Ability to write procedures competently.· Ability to perform some financial analyses.· Sensitivity with respect to human resource issues.· Ability to transfer knowledge effectively and to develop/mentor other.· Moderate PC skills including spreadsheets and word processing.
Preferred: Minimum 1 year leadership experience.
