DIRECTOR, PHYSICAL PLANT
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville invites applications for a full-time, academic staff position in facilities management. The successful candidate will serve as Physical Plant Director and provide leadership at UW-Platteville for the advancement, administration, coordination and management of the university's physical infrastructure and built environment. Participate as an active member in the leadership of the Division of Administrative Services, university-wide groups, and UW-System groups. Work effectively with students, faculty, staff and others to advance UW-Platteville's mission and goals. Provide top level administration and supervision in the engineering, planning, operation, purchasing, financial, and personnel management of the Facilities Management Department (Custodial Services, Building Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Central Heating Plant, Fleet Management and Motor Pool, Occupational and Environmental Safety and Risk Management, and Central Stores/Receiving). DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership within the Facilities Management Department and within the UW-Platteville; develops, recommends, implements and administers comprehensive policies, procedures, goals, objectives and standards related to the Facilities Management Department; develops the annual budget and reviews and monitors the budget throughout the fiscal year to ensure appropriate expenditure of funds; prepares detailed and comprehensive written and oral reports and recommendations and makes presentations to the administration, appropriate student, faculty and academic staff governance groups, committees, boards, and others; participates in the development of campus facilities plans, including capital budget requests; selects, assigns, supervises and evaluates staff and addresses personnel concerns of the staff; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, students, academic departments, administrative offices, the University of Wisconsin System representatives, public officials, architects, engineers, State of Wisconsin representatives, and others; represents UW-Platteville effectively within the University of Wisconsin System; participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective sustainability program; responsible for the oversight, inspection and coordination with Division of State Facilities staff, architects, and engineers of all work in process or completed, including major and minor projects, to ensure compliance with design intent and construction standards; works with the Campus Planner to prepare project estimates, project request documents, and program statements for submission to UW System to obtain funding for maintenance type projects and for major and minor projects for inclusion in the capital building program; and performs other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science degree in an applied engineering field, such as civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering or related field (licensed PE preferred). Five or more years of experience in supervisory/project management, including development and control of budget, scope and schedule; and change management. Demonstrated commitment to and experience with racially diverse populations. Additional qualifications include the ability to organize and delegate work to control a variety of programs simultaneously; ability to adapt to changing regulations and requirements; ability to work with faculty, staff and students through the course of projects from initiation through post-occupancy; excellent oral and written communication skills, including excellent judgment and self-control and demonstrated ability to communicate with physical plant employees, administrators, faculty, staff, and students so as to maintain morale and a good working relationship; knowledge of management techniques, including record keeping, budgeting, inventory control, cost control, business administration, personnel and human relations, leadership, and performance evaluation; a broad understanding of the principles, methods, techniques, and terminology required for the engineering, operation, maintenance and repair of systems/infrastructure including: mechanical, electrical, heating, temperature controls, air conditioning, refrigeration, ventilation, elevators, water and sewer, building structures and envelopes, streets and roads, parking areas, and landscaping; a broad understanding of the principles, methods, techniques, and terminology required for the construction, remodeling, and improvements of major and minor facilities; and a broad understanding of the codes, regulations, and standards relating to all aspects of facility operation, including building codes, safety standards and codes, environmental regulations, and knowledge of sustainability principles and approaches.
