Senior Product Manager - Avamar

Drives direction and definition of products lines through product requirements. Communicates to Product Marketing and Engineering the product line vision, value proposition, and functionality. Responsible for the "end to end" business of a product line and/or a product family. Creates "first, best content" which describes and communicates product value, vision and product roadmap for customers, analysts, and internal EMC audiences. Executes product strategy associated with a product line and/or product family. Understands the competitive ecosystem.

This position will involve product management responsibilities for EMC’s Avamar product, with a focus on VMware-related features and applications.


· As part of the Avamar product management team, will be responsible for specific software projects
· Communicates and aligns program plans with other EMC Avamar groups.
· Deals pro-actively on a wide range of operational issues as they arise.
· Manages product line or product family without direct supervision. Provides product guidance to associate and product managers. Shapes and/or champions new direction for a product line or product family. Prepares and presents the business case supporting a particular product(s) associated with the product line and/or product family to any audience.
· Evaluates and drives product management processes (e.g., long term product strategic business and product requirement plans). Ensures the right blend of trade-offs to maximize the product impact in the marketplace (competition, timing, costs, internal capabilities).
· Manages the collection and definition of candidate features and functions across all cross-functional areas resulting in the Product Requirements Document.
· Reviews and analyzes data from all sources, e.g., customer requirements, market analysis data, revenue numbers. Analyzes and understands competitors and their products as well as potential partner relationships for the product along with Business Development.
· Collaborates with Product Marketing and Program Management to develop and implement a company-wide go-to-market plan for a product, working with all departments to execute.
· Researches market need and creates the business case for assigned product. Analyzes financial impact of program changes. Manages cost and cash flow model for products. Leverages product/market knowledge to assist cross-functional groups including Product Marketing and field personnel with training content.
· Supports senior staff with research, development, and presentation of new product concepts to gain timely management approval and handling of issues for product feature/function set. Drives solutions across development teams (primarily Engineering Development and Marketing) through Product requirements, product contract, and positioning.

Skills

· Proven ability to deliver commercial (generally available) software from planning to GA required.
· Experience working as only product manager on a product required.
· Experience with backup, recovery or archive technology and VMware strongly desired.
· Software lifecycle experience strongly desired.
· Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel proficiency strongly desired.
· Experience with storage management software desired.
· Strong technical/programming background desired.
· Problem solving skills.
· Possesses operational command of the business.
· Ability to influence others to achieve results.
· Negotiation skills.
