The Mobility - Wheeled Suspension department will be reponsible for wheeled tactical vehicle suspension, steering, braking, wheels and tires. This is a functional engineering manager position within the Mobility Technology Team (TT). Technology team engineering managers will maintain a close and collaborative relationship with Program Management and Engineering program staff. The engineering manager will provide the leadership and planning that will enable project teams (consisting of internal members and external customers) to successfully meet desired results. This position will be located in Sterling Heights, Michigan and supports the wheeled suspension engineering needs across the enterprise; New Vehicle & Amphibious Programs, Heavy Tactical Vehicle (HTV) Programs, Armament Systems Programs, and Readiness and Sustainment Programs.
The Mobility - Wheeled Suspension department's responsibility shall be to develop their team members to meet the expectations of project IPT leads within their functional and technology areas specifically related to wheeled tactical vehicle suspension, steering and braking systems. The engineering manager as a matrix resource manager shall continuously improve upon the timely delivery of engineering artifacts (decisions, documents, designs, drawings, review packages) that embody the evolving mandates and best practices for the technology team. The engineering manager shall operate within the 3D Concept of Operations and employ a Borderless Engineering resource management structure across all sites of the enterprise to deliver effective and maintainable customer-mandated mobility platform systems. This Technically focused Team will lead the USCS engineering capabilities for: - Wheeled vehicle suspensions - Wheel vehicle steering systems - Steering columns and wheels - Wheeled vehicle braking systems - Tires and wheels - Central Tire Inflation Systems (CTIS) An additional responsibility of the new technology team engineering managers is to drive alignment of non-engineering groups & assets within USCS. These include, but are not limited to: Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality Function, et al. The TT managers shall be responsible for the leadership and coordination of horizontal integration actions to enable the rapid identification and implementation of the correct technical solutions for best Speed to Market (S2M) product deliveries to our customers. The TT's will work to implement an end-to-end integrated team for the areas assigned that will allow the enterprise the necessary infrastructure to capture and communicate solutions for Program IPT's. The following objectives describe the operation of the multi-function aligned Technology Team: 1. Provides for A Centralized Knowledge Base for Faster Program Execution 2. Creates Libraries for Cataloging of Products for Reuse 3. Continues to Support Institutionalization of Process/Procedures 4. Orchestrates Lessons Learned Across Enterprise [Not just Engineering] 5. Deliver the product definition to a project IPT for integration. 6. Design Engr - Models, Technical documentation, Software 7. Mfg Engr - Manufacturing processes, DFMA 8. Logistics - Support documentation 9. Technology Governance and Strategy 10. Support the Supply Chain Management Infrastructure for rapid solutions 11. Robust information and materials flow/communication and collaboration tools 12. Enterprise wide visibility into preferred suppliers and supplier activities Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1. Reviews performance of personnel and recommends appropriate actions such as salary increases, promotions, transfers and disciplinary action; encourages manpower development through training programs to ensure a higher level of skill and proficiency among employees. 2. Directs personnel to effectively complete assigned engineering tasks, projects, designs, research, proposals, customer contact, etc. 3. Manages and coordinates the exchange of technical data, information between company functions, customers, outside agencies or suppliers in accordance with company or customer policies, procedures, requirements, etc. 4. Manages cost and schedule, and supports EVMS techniques on programs. Supervises cost account managers and ensures that agreed upon cost and schedule commitments are met. 5. Supervises and coaches assigned personnel in the performance of their job requirements. Sets high work standards and objectively measures actual results against expected results. 6. Gives technical and administrative direction to subordinates. Involved in planning, designing, development, quality control and all other functions required of manager's particular field of expertise.
