Business Analyst

This position requires a good combination of functional and technical knowledge of Data Warehouse and report development lifecycle.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated a track record of capturing and modeling business requirements.
In addition, the business analyst will work with business partners to understand business questions and information needs to assure the delivery of data warehouse/business intelligence solutions providing the highest value to the organization and the lowest cost of ownership.
The Ideal candidate will participate in the incremental development of the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
The candidate participates throughout the project life cycle, from planning to production implementation, with emphasis on business requirements, analysis and follow through to production.
The EDW Group manages the central data warehouse with plans for integrating data from our clients main ERP systems - Oracle and PeopleSoft, other central systems and legacy data stores.
The group manages the complete set of tools, infrastructure and processes involved in the creation and operation of the Data Warehouse. The group enables reporting of the data through Business Objects and Hyperion System 9 portals.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain knowledge and expertise in the systems supported by the Data management and reporting Group.
• Elicit, analyze and document business requirements including business rules, quality attributes, performance goals, external interfaces and constraints
• Map the requirements to the source systems, the EDW and applicable data marts.
• Translate the business Requirements into Data Warehouse logical data models and educate end-users in EDW models.
• Assist with the determination of the feasibility of enhancement requests, identifying options and recommending a solution
• Perform necessary follow up with business partners to ensure new or modified Warehouse capability is performing satisfactorily and that business requirement have been met
• Work with business partners to resolve issues and assists business partners in conducting initial system roll-out
• Assist the Project Manager in developing project scope, resources and schedule
• Provide cost estimates for change requests and negotiates IT impacts with the business and internal technical teams
• Document business process flows and use cases for the QA team. Collaborate with the QA team to create and execute system test plans and user-acceptance testing
• Be a resource in developing training materials, writing communications and assisting with answering help desk tickets.
• Work with off-shore development resources to develop functional and technical specifications
• Integrates previous technical, business and personal experience to solve problems, develop new development protocols, etc., where there is little or no precedent to guide the search for information and/or solutions
• Propose technology solutions to business problems which result in higher operational effectiveness and service to internal and external customers
• Identifies and resolves unique situations related to the Data Warehouse systems that have substantial significance to our client
• Conducts in-depth qualitative or quantitative analysis to solve problems, make recommendations and/or to discover new approaches or applications
• Design and document various components of the Data Warehouse and how they will interface with each other
• Develop functional specifications to ensure compliance with System Development Lifecycle methods

Skills and Competencies

• Experience with implementation and/or support of the large scale enterprise level Data Warehouses preferably with Oracle ERP and PeopleSoft ERP source systems.
• Experience with Hyperion BRIO/ Business Objects reporting tools
• Must be experienced in Warehouse Business Requirements gathering & documentation, Data modeling & design (STAR Schema/Kimball methodology) using tools such as ERWIN etc.
• Experience on multiple data warehouse projects utilizing star and snowflake schemas.
• Experience with database design (logical, physical) for data warehousing environments is desired.
• Working knowledge of ETL Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) tools such as Informatica Power Center, SQL etc is desired.
• Must be experienced in writing SQL or using query tool against a database.
• Must be experienced in the development of reports using Hyperion and/or Business Objects for prototyping report development in a data warehouse environment.
• Experience creating functional specifications and source to target mapping documents
• A thorough understanding of relational databases and data models.
• Knowledge of Oracle ERP data models is desired for mapping business requirements to source system models.
• Strong capabilities in the following: functional analysis, fit/gap analysis, requirements documentation and process flow charting, presentation of options and solutions facilitation, issues analysis and resolution, coordination of user acceptance and sign-off, business process improvement
• Solid analytical skills and integration knowledge
• Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
• Strong listening, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

Relevant Work Experience
• 5-7 years experience in business/data analysis work primarily focused on Enterprise Data Warehouses.
• 2+ years experience with Oracle based Data warehouses.

Education

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS or related field
