Regular/Temporary: Regular JOB DESCRIPTION: THIS POSITION WILL BE LOCATED IN CHARLOTTE, NC Responsible for preparing sections of body tissue for examination by a pathologist to diagnose body dysfunction and malignancy. This includes the preparation of tissue specimens of human origin for diagnostic or teaching purposes. Histotechnologists process sections of body tissue by fixation, dehydration, embedding, sectioning, decalcification, microincineration, mounting and routine and special staining. HTL certification is required Qualification in Immunohistochemistry, QIHC is preferred. Must have had at least 3 years of histopathology techniques comparable to those performed in this lab (Clinical internships of twelve months duration meet this requirement). Experience in immunohistochemistry preparation with manual and automated methods and quality control activities in immunohistochemistry is required. Has knowledge and skills necessary to modify care according to patient(s)' age. Has the ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to operate equipment both at sitting levels and/or standing levels. Flexibility and adaptability to work additional hours or shifts. Effective communication skills and Lab Information System. Ability to work efficiently and accurately. Ability to organize and plan work.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Light Work - Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, including the human body, weighing 11-20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of weight constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time). Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
