Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento (SMCS) has two acute care hospital campuses, Sutter General and Sutter Memorial, and has provided health care to residents of Sacramento since 1923. SMCS also includes Sutter Center for Psychiatry, providing psychiatric, mental health and chemical dependency services since 1958, and Sutter Oaks Midtown, a 100-bed skilled nursing facility.

With 823 licensed beds, SMCS is not-for-profit and fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. SMCS received a superior rating for overall patient satisfaction on calhospitalcompare.org, a consumer online report card.

The SHI Research Nurse has clinical responsibilities and is a resource to staff, management, physicians, patients and other health team members in support of the Cardiac Research Program.

A current California RN license is required. A BSN is required, and ACLS certification is required. A Masters in Nursing is preferred.
Current clinical experience in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery. Demonstrated current knowledge of clinical research and critical care nursing. Strong communication skills and presentation abilities. Prior experience demonstrating the ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritize and organize work, analyze data and must possess effective interpersonal and leadership skills.
Specialized training with demonstrated expertise in the clinical specialty areas of Cardiology and/or Cardiac Surgery, with emphasis on nursing process, research principle, hospital policies and Nursing Standards. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the Performance Standards for the Critical Care, Cardiovascular, Cath Lab.
Ability to present clinical information to a wide variety of audiences. Able to coordinate and monitor clinical research projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written are necessary. Demonstrated expertise with PC-based software for word processing and Microsoft Outlook. Familiarity with PC-based software for spreadsheet, database and statistics is preferred. Effectiveness as a change agent because of the ability to influence without direct accountability.
