The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) is responsible for performing treatment programs developed by the Occupational Therapist, documenting treatment, attending team
meetings, and participating in continuing education. Treatment should be implemented within the specified timeframe and should be appropriate for the developmental needs, diagnosis, and goals set.
Appropriate treatment programs can include, but are not limited to: range of motion, strengthening, sensory, activities of daily living, cognitive / visual-perceptual activities, craft and leisure activities, group activities, and adaptation of splints, assistive devices, tools, and slings.

COTA is to complete all documentation within the specified timeframe,and in accordance with department and hospital policies and procedures. Documentation will provide a clear statement of the treatment given, the patient's response to and tolerance of the treatment, and any progress noted. COTA is also responsible for maintaining daily attendance records and charges for each patient. Confidentiality of all patient records is required.


Requires current Texas licensure (COTA), and CPR certification.


Education: Requires graduation from an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Experience: One year of COTA experience is preferred.
