An Engineering Technician is needed to join the Operations Group of the Accelerator Division Cryogenic Department, which is responsible for the operation of the Tevatron Cryogenic System. The operations crew follows a rotating 12-hour shift.

Responsibilities:

  • Under general supervision, provide technical support for an area of assignment
  • Abide by all lab environmental, safety and health regulations
  • Monitor the Tevatron cryogenic system and respond to alarms
  • Perform system operational procedures based on written procedures or verbal instructions
  • Document relevant work information in electronic logs
  • Report progress to appropriate crew chief or supervisory staff
  • Respond to operational and emergency requirements of the area
  • Perform maintenance on rotating equipment based on written procedures or verbal instructions
  • Perform project work based on drawings or verbal instructions

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Applicants must have good communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to be Oxygen Deficiency Hazard and radiation worker qualified
  • Can legally operate cars and light trucks; has valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs; work year-round outdoors; walk, climb, bend, stoop and twist; and work in confined spaces and at heights
  • Must be able to work a rotating 12-hour shift schedule
  • Must be able to read and use design drawings and schematics of components with minimal assistance
  • Must be able to take fractional and decimal measurements to assist with layouts and installations
  • Must be possess planning/organizing skills to accomplish detailed work
