Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, this position is responsible for all technical aspects of the laboratory and for adherence to standards and guidelines established by accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies by providing expertise and direction to ensure that all technical staff are competent to perform their duties.
Essential Functions:
· Reviews paternity cases prior to issue under the site specific Standard Operating Procedures.
· Reviews internal and external proficiency results.
· Participates in routine Director assessments to demonstrate technical expertise
· Responds to the technical needs of the laboratory.
· Must be well versed in laboratory function and processes to ensure that the laboratory is in compliance with all accrediting bodies and regulatory agencies.
· Involved in the development and implementation of all Standard Operating Procedures.
· Communicates with all employees in a positive professional manner.
· Contributes to and participates in the implementation and continuous improvement process of the Quality Program as it relates to the department.
· Maintains client confidentiality.
· Provides continuing education to technical staff on a routine basis.
· Responsible for obtaining relevant continuing education to remain in compliance with accrediting agencies.
· Serves as an expert witness in paternity cases as required as needed.
· Routinely interfaces with clients to explain reported results as needed.
Education:
· Doctoral degree in Life Sciences with post-doctoral
Experience:
· 2 to 4 years experience in molecular biology or related field.
· Experience and training in Paternity testing, Forensics, or PCR-based identity testing is a plus.
· Training in laboratory methods and procedures.
Technical Skills:
· Sound knowledge of genetics and identity testing.
· Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
· Ability to communicate clearly verbally and in written form.
· Ability to write, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions.
· Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
· Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages to practical situations.
· Ability to integrate data to discover testing patterns for interpretation.
· Ability to use deductive reasoning skills to solve highly complex pedigrees.
· Ability to use computer for data analysis
Non-Technical Skills:
· Ability to present information to other employees is essential.
· Strong Organizational and operational planning skills.
· Assists other departments as necessary. |
