ABB - CAD Designer (Transformer)

Power Products are the key components to transmit and distribute electricity. The division incorporates ABB's manufacturing network for transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, cables and associated equipment. It also offers all the services needed to ensure products' performance and extend their lifespan. The division is subdivided into three business units.

The CAD Designer reports to the Engineering Development Manager (Power) or V. P. Engineering (Instrument) and is responsible for the implementation of electrical and mechanical computer programs for the design of transformer products in concert with the Development Manager.

1. Create drafting design programs in 3D to produce layouts, calculations, and drawings from Engineering Design Sheet and Drafting Instructions, and Customer Specifications as provided by Design Engineer.
2. Create drafting design programs in 3D to produce drawings for Customer Approval and for Manufacturing in accordance with Kuhlman Design Engineering standards and Customer Specifications.
3. Create drafting design programs in 3D to prepare Bills of Materials for transformers and associated drawings in both hard copy and electronic format.
4. Prepare Standard Parts drawings and models in 3D as required.
5. Provide technical assistance to Design Engineer, to other drafters, and to Manufacturing and Test Personnel as required.
6. Serve as Team Leader in the absence of Team Design Engineer.

Requirements

1. Ten years of experience in drafting and design, with a minimum of five years in electrical related drafting and design.
2. Must have transformer design experience related to the power or utility field.
3. Must be experienced in the use of Autodesk’s Inventor and Autocad for the design of electro-mechanical components and assemblies, with knowledge of the use of Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) in Autodesk Inventor and MS Excel.
4. Experience on Pro-E and Solidworks platforms is acceptable.

High school or GED required. Two-year technical degree preferred.
