Description:

This is a full time, fiscal year permanent position reporting to the Manager of Client Services. The Computer Lab Technician is under general supervision. He/she is primarily responsible for the deployment (repairs, maintenance, and installation) and support of all microcomputer and related equipment at the college. The operating environment includes PC microcomputers with Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems. PC servers with microcomputers, a 10/100 megabit Ethernet local area network (LAN), and wide area networks using frame relay, TCP/IP, and T1. The environment also includes Compaq Alpha Servers running Open VMS.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Installs, configures, and tests new microcomputer hardware including: PCs of Apple Macintoshes; laser, dot-matrix, and inkjet printers; local area network switches and hubs.
  • Installs, configures, and tests microcomputer system and application software including: Microsoft Windows XP and 2000; Linux; Microsoft Office 2000 and 2003; and other common software packages.
  • Identifies and repairs fault in microcomputer hardware; if appropriate coordinates warranty repair of faulty equipment.
  • Identifies and corrects fault in microcomputer software.
  • Assists in the development of microcomputer equipment specifications, deployment procedures and techniques, service procedures and standards, etc... provides advice to faculty and staff on the use of microcomputer equipment.
  • Integrates microcomputer equipment into the college local area network.
  • Responds to client requests for service by phone or in person and diagnose and resolve computer system problems.
  • Maintains appropriate records, inventory, work orders, time reporting, documentation, etc.
  • Checks and tests equipment on contracted maintenance, identifies maintenance needs, and communicates with contractors.
  • Reads diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals for repair and diagnostic information.
  • May perform other duties as assign.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School or equivalent; plus two (2) years training in basis electronics or computer maintenance; with minimum of three years experience in computer repair/maintenance.
  • At least six (6) months experience as a microcomputer technician or technical support help desk analyst in a networked microcomputer environment is preferred.
  • Associate's degree in Computer Technology or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Equivalent training and or experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of current microcomputer technology and equipment including: (Intel and Intel compatible) microcomputers or Macintosh microcomputers: laser and dot matrix printers: Windows XP and Windows 2000 operating systems, or Mac OS; Windows NT or Novell server environments.
  • Knowledge of current network technology and equipment including wide area networking, and local area networking.
  • Skills in solving problems excellently.
  • Skills in communication and interpersonal.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ability to repair, maintain, and install microcomputer equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with contractor.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • A background check will be required for the successful candidate.

Salary: $32,808.00 – Minimum
